Hideo smiled weakly as he poured water over Valerie's grave, it had already been a month without since she'd passed.
A month without her by his side...
"How do you feel?" Kai asked as he cradled Hideo's small daughter in his arms.
"Bad..." Hideo replied as he held back his tears, and laid the flowers he brought down. "She should be here, she should've met, Akari."
Kai nodded.
"Life's unfair like that, you're the nicest person I've ever met, and look at the cards life's handed you."
Hideo shook his head as he stood up.
"Life is shit... but at least I got to meet her, she is–was–larger than life. She's the reason you and I can have a normal life." He grabbed his daughter from his best friend's hands.
"You know after all that stuff happened with Hanae... I really thought I wanted to die. I knew Valerie didn't have that much time left, and I just didn't know what there was to live for after she left me too, but Valerie–she didn't only give me a chance at life, she gave me a reason to live for."
He kissed his daughter's foreheads and she whined and he settled her back against his chest.
"Your kid got lucky, getting such a good dad," Kai said as he picked up the small bucket and pail Hideo had used to clean his late wife's grave, but Hideo wasn't paying attention. He was too busy looking down at her, his mind still not able to comprehend, how only weeks ago she had been sleeping soundly next to him.
He closed his eyes as he set a hand down on her grave.
"Thank you, for everything... I'm going to miss you, Valerie."

Hideo thanked the lord a thousand times over that he had enough money to hire a night-nurse, despite his constant backlash Valerie had put everything she owned under his name... ironically enough making Hideo an overnight millionaire.
