Thud. Thud. Thud.
Thud. Thud. Thu- "I'm coming! Jesus." A loud shout echoes throughout the studio apartment. The sound of a curtain sliding rips out into the silence of the midnight. Max opens the door to a formally dressed Caitlin. A maroon pantsuit paired with a crisp, bright, white shirt. Max parallels her in a white tanktop and red boxers. "Dr. Snow, to what do I owe the honor of seeing your lovely face on my doorstep at this hour?" Only to be replied with a hand on her face, shoving her out of the way as Caitlin walks in. "I told you to stop calling me that two months ago."
The sleepy speedster gently closes the door with a chuckle. "It was a month, three weeks, and eleven days actually, but who's counting, right?" A cheeky smile plastered on her face, her eyes glide up to meet Caitlin's unamused gaze and her smile falters slightly. "Yes, I know you told me to stop, but the look on your face is just too good."
Caitlin has already made herself comfortable. Having taken off her suit jacket and settled herself at the kitchen bar, a bottle of wine and a mug rested next to her. Max sits on the other side of the aisle, gleefully amused. Her eyes linger on the mug for a moment before flickering back up to the brunette sitting across from her. "I couldn't find your wine glasses." She abruptly says before Max can ask.
"So are you finally taking me up on that midnight booty call offer?" Max jests tiredly, attempting to rub the sleep out of her eyes. Caitin begins pouring wine to the brim of the coffee mug. "It's three in the morning and you still have jokes." She curtly responds.
Max grabs a banana from behind her and chuckles. "What can I say Doc, you just bring it out of me." Her signature snarky smirk stuck on her lips.
Silence drifts between them, the quiet sounds of Max eating and Caitlin sipping lulling through them. The faint noise of the Ac and quiet rain filling the background.
The taller of them looks up from the counter to see Caitlin grasping the mug with two hands, intently staring at the edge of the aisle. "So.. Is it something sad?" Max gently asks, throwing away her banana peel.
"Is what sad?" Caitlin replies.
"The reason you came here at three in the morning." Max shifts her gaze to the suddenly very interesting ceiling.
"No, it's nothing sad. Why do you always assume I'm sad or mad, or just feeling negative? Do you think I'm that unhappy! What kind of a friend are you, I'm capable of happiness!" Caitlin bursts out, her soft stare at the corner changing into a brutal glare directed towards the speedster.
After taking a second to process what just happened, Max shifts off her chair and moves to the seat next to Caitlin. "Did someone piss you off? Was it Sherloqe? He's annoying sometimes. Oh wait! Was it Barry being an ass again? Can I go make fun of him again 'till he whines to Iris?" A pause. "No, wait! Is it Cisco? If it is can I send him a fake breakup box, it'll be hilarious. Even if it wasn't him I'm still doing that."
A small laugh escapes Caitlin as she turns to face Max, her raged expression softening to a small smile. "No, no, none of that. But thank you for the offer Max." She puts the mug down on the counter which Max takes as a cue to take a sip.
Letting out a satisfied sigh after finishing the mug, Max puts the cork back into the wine bottle and pushes it to the opposite side of the table. Choosing to say silent.
Caitlin takes a deep breath. "It's just, I miss her." She puts her elbows on the table and rests her face in her palms, rubbing her temples and cheeks.
"Frosty Flakes?" Max quietly chimes up.
Caitlin lets out a breathy laugh, "You know she hates that name. But yes, her."
Another deep breath, "I never realized how attached I was to her until she left. Now that she's gone it feels like a part of me is missing. A key part. And I've been trying my best with Cisco to get her back but what if it isn't enough? What if she never comes back? And I'm stuck as just Caitlin." Caitlin's lifted her head out of her palms and faced Max. Her hands are balled into such tight fists that Max can see her hands turning white and fingernail indents in her palms.
Max reaches up and grasps both of Caitlin's hands, forcing them to relax. "Don't think like that. You feel like something is missing because there is. Killer FRost is apart of you, she's your grungy alter-ego not some other person who can come and go. I know that she's in there, " Max points a finger to Caitlin's chest. "she just needs some time. Also, don't speak like that about my girl Caitlin okay. She's a genius, who's super hot, and amazingly brave, courageous, kind, caring, and so much other shit. It's all lovey-dovey and weird stuff but ya know good stuff. And if I hear you talking crap about her again I will not hesitate to write a 32 page paper about this, with charts and everything."
Caitlin laughs and squeezes the hand that's still holding hers. "Thank you Max, it means a lot." Her smile widens to it's full capacity and her laugh turns into a quiet giggle.
"Anytime Dr. Snow, anyti-" Once again, the sound of a curtain opening rips through the apartment.
"Max?" A sleepy feminine voice calls out. "Maxie it's like four am come back to bed." A short blonde figure appears out of the dark. "Oh shit, sorry I didn't know you had company."
Max smiles, "It's not problem hon, I'll be there in a minute." She waves the girl off with a cheeky grin before turning back to Caitlin who slaps her on the shoulder.
"Ow! What the hell was that for?" Max cries out, rubbing at her shoulder.
Caitlin stands and puts on her suit jacket as she harshly scolds Max, "You ass! I'm here pouring out my fears and insecurities and you have a girl in there!" She stomps to the door with Max on her tail.
Max shushes her, "Keep it quiet!" Which gains her another slap on the shoulder. "Would you stop doing that! What was I supposed to do? You never asked!"
Caitlin sighs and gives her a quick side hug. "You're such a whore, goodnight Maxie."
"Goodmorning to you too prude."
(A/N)Hi!!! Okay I know I updated like yesterday but this one shot just popped into my head. I know it's pretty short too but I was thinking about how to structure this and maybe I could do a main storyline but also random one shots that like jump from different times. Like this one was two months after Max showing up at Caitlin's apartment. So if you guys like that then we'll roll with it I guess.
I read y'all's comments and got mostly Max shipped with Nora so I'm probably mostly going to do that but I did see some Max and Caity comments so I'll supply to those as well. I think the dynamics between them both are super interesting. Max and Cait are like enemies to lovers I guess and Max and Nora is probably gonna be Max pining for a bit, moving on, can't do it, big fight, slow friendship, and then kiss. Or something else whatever I feel in the moment tbh.
Anyways! Once again, thank you all for the love and support it's literally my main motivator, I probably wouldn't have continued this if it wasn't for all your guys's support so <3<3 love you all so much!!
