"Lydia, I won't let that happen."

***

Lydia's mind had been clouded for most of the day. She drifted through time, unaware and distracted. Her conversation with Jennifer led to nothing fruitful, but that didn't mean she wouldn't stop watching over her.

Three people were dead because of Jennifer, and there were going to be more. There were billions of men in the world; she could feast on all of them if she could. From testosterone-fuelled boys to unhappily married men, Jennifer had her pick of the lot. Once every male in this town was dead, Lydia knew that her best friend would move on to the next town. The cycle was never going to end.

Scott and Allison broke up; that just showed how much power Jennifer had. They were the perfect couple. He would never cheat on the girl he loved, yet that demon still managed to confuse his senses. If Stiles was on her list of targets, Lydia needed to keep him safe. She couldn't let him go near her; otherwise, she was going to lose him too.

"Earth to Lydia." She blinked in shock upon hearing Stiles' voice.

All of a sudden, she was back in Stiles' room where he had taken her after school. Lydia quickly returned to her normal self, albeit feeling a little awkward. "Oh, sorry."

"Something playing on your mind?" he wondered.

She smirked slightly. "There's always something playing on my mind these days."

He nudged her a bit. "Penny for your thoughts?"

"No." Lydia chuckled.

Stiles narrowed his eyes, confused. "Why not?"

"Because I want this night to be about us. I don't want these... stupid worries to take over my life." She rubbed her forehead for a moment, trying to erase the rest of the day from her mind.  Then, Lydia turned to her boyfriend and lightly smiled. "Tell me about your day."

"Well, it wasn't really that exciting..."

"I don't care. I want to hear it anyway."

"Okay then." Though it bewildered him, Stiles did what she said and told her about his day. "I woke up super late because my dad didn't wake me up. Apparently, he had to go to the station really early because of a new case."

Instantly, his words piqued her interest. "What case?"

"I don't know. I'll probably ask him later." He brushed it off, continuing. "So, anyway, I missed my first class. It was the worst one of the day, so I guess that's a good thing." Stiles glimpsed at her and smirked. "Then, I met my incredible girlfriend on the field, and she immediately brightened my day."

She giggled, shaking her head. "Shut up."

"Never." The couple leaned in, staring into each other's eyes. Somehow, being with Stiles made everything better. With one look into his dark-brown eyes, Lydia felt calmer than she did before. To love someone was a rarity for a girl like her; perhaps this was her reward.
