Erica screamed and scrambled to grab an edge as she fell. She managed to grab onto a stray branch that was growing out of the rocks. She couldn't find her voice as she held onto dear life. Thorin raced up in front and looked down "Erica! Are you alright!?" He called

"Yes! P-Please help!" She cried desperately. Thorin looked to Nori "Nori give me the rope!" He said quickly.

"Right!" He said whipping out a rope.

"Hold on Erica Thorins comin tae get you!" Bofur yelled.

"Hurry! The branch is breaking!" She cried. With the rope secure around his waist, Thorin stood at the edge "we'll lower ye down lad" Dwalin said grabbing the other end, everyone else followed suite and lowered him down the rocky edges.

He reached Erica who had her eyes closed tightly. "Erica! You need to let go" he said. Erica shook her head out of fear.

The branch was cracking making Erica's eyes snap open "hurry Erica!" He begged.

Erica nodded and reached out to his hand until the branch gave way. Thorin quickly grabbed her baby the waist and held her tightly as she screamed in fright. She hid her face in his neck as he sighed in relief "pull us up!" He yelled.

"You heard him! Pull!" Kili yelled. The dwarves pulled the two back up to the top and toppled back in relief. Thorin stroked Erica's hair in comfort as she shook with fright "Erica, Erica your alright I've got you" he whispered in her ear. She shakingly pulled back, taking deep breaths. Fili and Kili immediately hugged her "you scared half to death" Fili whispered.

"I know, sorry" she sheepishly laughed.

"Let's move on, we need to find shelter before the storm comes in. Fili, Kili look after Erica" Thorin ordered. So Erica was placed behind Kili and Bofur stayed behind her. They moved on just as the storm kicked in "hold on!" Thorin yelled as another gust of wind hit them. Bilbo even slipped and almost fell but he was grabbed by Dwalin and pulled him back. "We must find shelter!" Thorin grunted out.

"Look out!"

Everyone yelled as a rock came flying towards them. They pressed themselves against the walls to avoid the rocks tumbling down "the ledgends are true! Giants! Stone giants!" Bofur yelped.

The ground suddenly began to split apart and without thinking Erica shoved Kili to his brother as half the group were separated. She gripped the wall in fear as they were moved away from the others and headed towards the mountain. Erica suddenly felt lightheaded and her vision became white

Make a shield child....imagine it

(Thorin pov)

I watched in cold stone fear as half the group crashed into the mountain "NOOOO! ERICA!" I cried running to the corner. As soon as I got there the sight shocked me. Around my men was some sort of ice shield.

"We're alright we're alive!" Balin yelled from inside. The ice thawed and I saw Erica, kneeling down with her hands up, eyes closed tightly. I sighed in relief. She's alright.

"Erica! We're ok! You can open your eyes now!" Bombur laughed. She cautiously opened one eye then looked around "oh....what happened?" She asked. I walked forward and helped her up "you miraculously saved them...thank you" I said seriously. She smiled and gave a nod.

"Where's bilbo!? Where's our hobbit!?" Bofur yelled. We found him hanging on the edge of the cliff. Erica ran to the edge and grabbed his hand with Ori "get him up!" Dwalin yelled. I jumped to an edge and lifted him back up but I slipped. Dwalin grabbed me and I felt another hand grab me. I looked up, seeing it was Erica. She and Dwalin managed to get me back up. Dam that hobbit!

"I thought we lost our burglar" Dwalin grumbled. I stood up and glared at the hobbit "he's been lost ever since he left home. He should never have come" I growled. Bofur found a cave so everyone got in.

"No fires in this place. Get some sleep, we leave at first light" I ordered.

"We are supposed to wait for Gandalf" Balin intervened. I looked at him. "Plans change...Bofur, you take first watch" I said.

He nodded and sat down as the others settled down. I looked over at Erica who was shivering slightly. I made my way over and sat next to her "you gave us quite a scare back there " I mumbled. She buried her face in her knees. "I know...I feel like such a burden"

I stroked her hair making her look up. "You are not a burden...your the light that gives us hope...I'm glad you came with us" I confessed. She smiled a little "I'm glad I did too" she whispered. I smiled softly and wrapped an arm around her to keep her from shivering. She relaxed and laid her head on my shoulder. This felt right. Having her in my arms.

I looked down to find her asleep and smiled. She is honestly our light that brings us hope...brings me hope...
