We hear the coyote howl and we know Caine's attacking. Drake gets up and takes all three of his guns with him. I follow, slinging my rifle over my shoulder. We're walking down the street, just in sight of the plaza to be able to see the coyotes attacking the children there, when we spot one hulking figure beside a figure which seems like a doll in comparison.

'Hey!' I yell, immediately recognising Howard.

'We're just getting Orc a beer,' he says, eyeing up our guns. Orc turns around slowly.

'You,' he snarls, and I'm surprised to see that everything but a small patch of face seems to be made of gravel. 'You made me kill Bette.'

'Go to the plaza,' Drake answers shortly.

'You made me kill her,' Orc repeats.

'Go!' Drake growls, snapping his whip down on Orc's shoulder. The stone boy roars, lunging at Drake, who moves away fast enough that Orc looks like he's in slow motion. Howard gulps, and I sense Drake and Orc are going to be there for a while, so I raise an eyebrow at him.

'Scram, if you want to keep your life.'

Howard scurries off, and I take my rifle from over my shoulder and look through the scope until I find Caine.

He's squaring off with Sam, the church half collapsed nearby.

'Caine and Sam are having brotherly fun,' I tell Drake.

'Nice,' he answers, the sound of his voice followed very quickly by the sound of his whip hand and Orc's bellow. Knowing Drake can handle Orc, for now at least, I watch Sam and Caine duel, until they enter a building. I wait for a while, until one of the walls is blown out, then the other, and then Caine staggers out as the building collapses, probably on top of Sam.

'Oh,' I say, pretty astonished. 'I kind of thought Sammy would win.' I carry on watching through the scope, when a beam of blinding light shoots up into the sky. 'Seems I spoke too quickly,' I say, shaking my head. 'I knew Caine couldn't be that competent.'

Drake chuckles, and I watch as the twins face off, and I can tell Sam's winning, bargaining his way out.

'Hey, Drake, I need you.'

'Kind of - ' He snaps his whip. ' - busy.'

I spin around. 'Carry on fighting, just duck when I say, baby.' I raise my pistol, aim, lightning quick. Orc registers what I said, slowly starts moving, but I'm faster. 'Duck!' I yell, then shoot. The bullet flies true, straight into the flesh part of Orc, and, surprisingly, right through the other side, accompanied by a spray of pebbles and brains. The boy falls, dead, and Drake looks around at me, surprised.

'You really could have thought of that,' I say. 'C'mon.'

I lead Drake up the stairs of a random house, and we jump from rooftop to rooftop until we can see Caine and Sam without the help of our rifle scopes.

'Okay,' I say. 'I'm shooting Sam. If I miss, he'll know where we are, and he'll zap us, so your job is to shoot him as well, be my backup.'

'Sure, babe,' he says. 'I got you. But - '

'Just because you're my favourite sadist I'm not giving you time to beat Sam up, because that's the time when someone will save him or he'll save himself.' I cross my arms, waiting for him to protest. 'We can go after Astrid and Brianna afterwards. I know you hate women,' I croon, moving a step closer to him and slipping a hand under his shirt, fingers running over the hard muscle of his stomach, letting my breath ghost over the skin of his throat. 'You can do whatever you want with them after we take out Sam.' I wink, smirking at him. 'And you can do whatever you want with me, too.'
