Annabeth took a book about Ancient Architecture out of the bookshelf, settling on the plush-purple chair.
She had just come back from the pool with her friends and felt like having some alone time to read a few books and finish helping Percy with his homework. And you may ask why Percy has homework... Well. Sally insisted on letting Percy continue his classes at Goode since she didn't want Percy to lack education. Sally had also privately told Annabeth that she wanted Percy to take a break from 'demigod stuff' and experience being a normal teenager.
Anyhow, she immersed herself into her reading about different types and examples of fascinating architecture from modern and ancient times.
As she flipped to the next page, she felt something skittering up her arm. Without paying attention to it, she continued to skim through the page when she felt something poking her. Annabeth shook her arm a little, not breaking her eye contact with the book.
Minutes later, indeed she felt the same movement of spindly legs climbing up her arm. Annoyed, she finally consented and looked down.
On her arm, was the hugest black spider, with thin, long legs and a round, black body.
Immediately, Annabeth shrieked and jumped off the chair, nearly throwing her book at the wall.
She started to thrash, hoping that the spider would fall off before she could call for Percy to kill it. When it didn't work, she quickly retrieved a piece of paper from her table and scooped the spider onto it, her breath becoming slightly ragged.
As the spider skimmed across the sheet, she threw it on the ground, terrified as her mind became blank with fear.
"PERCY!!!" She screamed as loud as she could, hoping he could hear her, carefully watching the spider inch closer to her. Annabeth backed up a step.
"Okay, look. I defeated your mother, Arachne, and sent her to Tartarus. She was much bigger than you and much creepier. I tricked her to weave her own trap, so I'm not scared of you," she rambled as she bent down and stared down at the spider. "So you better not take another step forward, because then I would do the same to you as I did to Arachne."
Like the spider understood what she was saying, it stopped momentarily and waved one of its arms and seemed to wave at her.
"Okay... That's just plain creepy. PERCY!!!!!!!!!" She muttered before once again screaming.
When the spider continued to skitter toward her, Annabeth scrambled up a bunk bed to the neatly folded bed above her. Suddenly, a pungent smell emitted from the middle of the room, nearly blinding her sense of smell.
"Hey, Annabeth!" Someone barged into the Athena cabin. She recognized it as Elizabeth Black, one of her friends. "I wanted to know- Why are you sitting on my bed? And hugging... my teddy bear, Fleur? And what is that smell!?"
"S-Spider. Not sure about the smell though," Annabeth murmured, pointing at the black insect that was clearly visible.
Elizabeth half gagged and half gasped, (Which sounded like a goat that was about to puke) plugging her nose before backing out of the room and slamming the door shut as Annabeth saw her silhouette running away.
When Annabeth couldn't handle the stench anymore, she started to do small talk.
"You're a daughter of Athena. You know what to do... It's just a small spider, and it can't do anything to you. You'll be fine," she muttered.
With a new surge of confidence, she hopped off from the bunk bed with the spider scampering toward her. Ignoring it, she continued walking when suddenly, it burst into flames and started to float into the air and zip around the cabin, ricocheting off the walls without even leaving a mark on the wooden walls.
Annabeth raised her incredulous eyes, staring at the flaming spider that now bumped into a tiny red button that she hadn't noticed that was in the corner of the room, behind a bunk bed.
And for once, she was speechless.
Loud rap music started to ring around Annabeth, which looked like an air vent out of the speaker. At the same time, a long, yellow drop-down banner from a compartment in the ceiling with bold, red wording.
Can't believe I didn't notice all of this! Annabeth frowned.
She squinted at the neon words as small pieces of confetti showered onto her. Annabeth made out the words All da ladies luv Leo! before facepalming herself.
She ducked as the fireball came flinging at her, before sprinting out of the cabin, ready to yell at Leo if she saw him.
Time Skip to dinner.
"So, about the thing you wanted to tell me about earlier..." Annabeth trailed on, talking to Percy, her boyfriend.
Chiron had allowed Percy to sit at the Athena table, and Annabeth to sit at the Poseidon table when they wanted to, after many attempts of pleading.
"Yeah, so, I just got my first lesson for surfing today!" Percy started to grin.
"That's great!" She answered as campers started to find their seats at the Athena table.
"And- Wait. I have to go the bathroom, hold on a sec," Percy scraped some food into the bonfire (A/N I don't know if it's a bonfire, fireplace, or whatever it is...... So, if I'm wrong, please comment!) before taking a huge gulp of the mash potatoes then started to run toward his cabin, still carrying his food.
"WHAT IN THE GODS IS THAT?" A camper shrieked from beside Annabeth as she waited for Percy, pointing at the table she hadn't noticed that was now covered in skittering, black spiders.
"IT'S A SPIDER!!!! AHH!!!" Another camper screamed as every student sitting at the table jumped away from their seat.
"LEO!!!!!!!" The whole Athena cabin spotted Leo grinning impishly from the side, and swarmed around him, yelling.
The rest of the camp froze, watching when Annabeth started to yell at him.
"FIRST, YOU SET A SPIDER IN THE ATHENA CABIN, MAKE IT SMELL TERRIBLE, AND NOW CREATE CHAOS AT DINNER? YOU'RE LUCKY I LET YOU OFF THE HOOK THIS TIME! AND YOU'D BETTER FIX THE SMELL IN OUR CABIN!"
"Fight! Fight! Fight!" Coach Hedge and Clarrisse chanted, pumping their fists.
"Now, now children. Mr. Valdez, please stop pranking campers. We already had to deal with the exploding pepsi from yesterday... Made quite a mess if I had to say so myself. Campers, get back to your seats please," Chiron instructed while holding up a hand, stomping his hooves.
Everyone silently agreed, and quietly went back to their seats and resumed their normal chatter.
"I'm back! What did I miss?" Percy grinned, plopping beside Annabeth.
"A lot," a camper chimed in from behind her.
And like that, the rest of the dinner passed smoothly with only a couple of glares sent to Leo and a few snickers from the Hephaestus cabin.

Fun Question: What is Gabe's last name?
Hint: I personally think that Gabe's attitude is quite ugly.
