“Hey Aaron,” I called after my brother as soon as school let out. He turned around and walked up to me.
“What’s up, Rosie?” he asked
“Nothing much. I have to tell you something. Luke wanted to hang out, like now.” I told him afraid of his reaction.
“WHAT!?” he said loudly. I flinched and everyone in the hall turned to stare at us.
“Turn around people, nothing to see here,” I snapped at them. I looked back up at Aaron. “I already told you I have a plan. I will humiliate him. First, he has to know who I am. Then, we’ll go from there.”
“Why does he have to know who you are?”
“Well, it won’t be as effective if he doesn’t know who I am. He will be humiliated by the nerd of this school. People will definitely get a laugh out of that right?”
‘You are not a nerd sis.”
“Uh, yes I am. The only difference is that no one bullies me. No one bullies me because of you. You’re like one of the top five most popular guy in school, also one of the hottest. No one dares bother me because they know how close we are. They are scared of your power.”
“That makes sense, I guess.”
“Good to know that I finally got through to you. I have to go to meet up with Luke now.” I said before turning around to leave.
“I still don’t approve you meeting with him!” he called after me. I rolled my eyes and ignored him. I went outside to the school parking lot to see Luke leaning against his car.
“Hey, Luke!” I called to him. He snapped his head up and he smiled. He waved over to me. I came closer, but still kept some distance between us.
“Can you tell me what you’re planning?” I asked him suspiciously.
“Nope,” he said popping the “p.”
“So, why did you look like you knew something last class?” I asked him.
“What is this, twenty questions?” he laughed.
“Yes, now answer the question,” I ordered him.
“I don’t want to.” He said simply. I rolled my eyes and took out my iPod. I put on the earphones and stared out the window. I was so zoned out I didn’t realize that we had stopped.
“The park? Really? Your plan was too go to the park?” I asked him disbelievingly.
“Yup. Did you think it was anything else?” He asked me as we sat down on the bench.
“Of course not. Why’d you bring me here anyway?”
“To talk.”
“About what?”
“You.”
“Why?”
“Because I know you.”
My breath hitched in my throat, and I mentally started to panic. “What does he mean? Does he really know who I am? Does he remember from all those years ago? Does he remember how much he hurt me?” I thought
“Don’t look all weirded out. I’m not a stalker. I just feel like I know you.” He said thoughtfully. I felt a bit relieved, but at the same time, I feel like I want him to know who I really am.
“My name is Rose.” I said suddenly. He looked at me confused.
“I never really told you my name,” I said simply. Realization crossed his face and his mouth made an ‘o’ shape.
“You have the same name as my ex–girlfriend. You even look a bit like her, too. She moved away, though.” He told me in a sad voice, as he looked down. I froze. He remembers me. At least he still hadn’t recognized me. Wait; did he say that in a sad voice? Why was he sad? He was the one who hurt me.
“You sound sad about it,” I tried to say sympathetically.
“I am. I know I hurt her, and I miss her so much. When I went to her house two days later, she had already moved. I never got the chance to tell her how sorry I am,” He said sadly. His pointer finger twitched, and I instantly knew he was lying. His pointer finger twitches every time he lies. I’ll play along until he confesses to me.
“Why are you telling me this?” I asked him.
“You remind me so much of her,” he said looking up, his eyes boring into mine. His stare was intense, as if daring me. At the corner of my eye, I saw his finger twitch again.
“Ok, cut the crap,” I snapped at him. “I know you know who I really am, Luke. Just admit it.”
“What are you talking about Rose?” He asked innocently.
“You know what I’m talking about. You are such a liar. You probably knew who I was the moment you saw me.” I told him my anger starting to rise.
“So what if I did? What happened to you? You used to be a hot bada**. Now you’re ugly and nerd. You have seriously downgraded.” He said
“So what? Does it look like I care? I changed for a reason. If I change back, it definitely won’t be because of you.” I told him standing up.
“And why not? You will fall for me again. I guarantee it,” He said confidently.
“After what you did to me? Like hell I will.” I told him. I started stalking off, but I stopped abruptly when he called something out, making me turn to look at me.
“Let’s make a deal,” he called to me.
“Keep talking,” I said walking back to him slowly. I listened to him, and I started nodding my head. This is going to be interesting.
“So, we have a deal?” he clarified.
“Yup.” I turned back around and walked off. Watch out, Luke. I will get my revenge, and this deal will help me.
Let the games begin.
