Four Months Later

Rebuilding Ravka has not been easy.. trusting Aleksander has not been easy.. but loving him.. it is the only thing effortless.

We've spent many days cross with each other. As expected, him and I have opposing opinions and now more than ever I understand him. Aleksander operates out of fear and it's ruled over his whole life.. he's never spent a day not fighting for something, not protecting something. This new sense of peace it's terrifying to him but the wanting.. the so called weakness he's let in.. it's lets him meet me halfway. I know there will come a day where his tactics may come to use but that day is not today.

In fact, today is particularly sweeter than most.

We've had government officials in and out of the little palace as of late so no conversation between us had been light. When we're making up for lost time we speak with that of our bodies whether it's in bed, in the library, in the war room but today has been quiet...

It's almost noon and I'm still in bed. Aleksander went for a ride early this morning on his horse therefore I was left to my thoughts.. begrudgingly so they immediately drifted to him and I once again became a young school girl but I let myself. I always wanted to be this unabashedly in love and so when my handmaiden announces his return I sheepishly wait for him in the study on the small love seat adjacent his desk.

I feel his presence before he walks in the room, every nerve in my body perking up. The turn of the door sends a jolt of anticipation through me.

" She's awake" I hear him announce as if I'd slept until supper.

" I was tired, it's almost as if someone kept waking me up every hour." I tell him

I feel his breath at the side of my neck now where he places a hot kiss.

" How very wicked." He whispers in my ear

I release a heavy exhale trying my best to regain my composure.

" You went for a ride this morning, Lucinda told me." I tell him referring to my handmaiden.

He nods " I did, I needed the fresh air plus I figured I'd make it back before you woke." He says walking across the study to sit at his desk.

" I was thinking of something earlier." I tell him

He leans back in his chair now intrigued.

"Enlighten me."

" Hmm more of a question" I tell him

" Then do ask, milaya."

" Would you want me if I was just a woman?" I ask him.

He looks at me intently, his steady gaze brought me back to when I first realized my interest in him, the distance between us felt unnatural now and I almost felt nervous waiting for his response.

"What do you mean? Just a woman?"

" I mean if I wasn't the sun summoner, wasn't grisha.."

He thinks for moment.

" Alina- I want you for all that you are. You being a sun summoner, you being grisha.. it is part of you.. it's part of how we met, how we got here. Your light is what brought me to you, how could I ever disregard it?"
