As the seasons transitioned into late summer, Wilbur had convinced Aster to let their relationship be more public and the two spent days in the fields, the castle halls, and with Fundy, though Wilbur often had to be absent from these events due to his duties as a prince and heir to the throne. After a particularly long day of work, Wilbur found Aster speaking with Kailani about the upcoming preparations to get the castle ready for the cold of fall and winter.
"Excuse me, may I borrow Aster for a moment?" He interrupted quietly.
Kailani smirked, "Go ahead, lover boy." Wilbur grinned at that while Aster went pink in embarrassment.
Wilbur laced his hand with Aster and pulled her away. "Where are we going Wil? I do have things to do you know." She scolded lightly, following him nonetheless.
"It's a surprise." He informed her and she sighed dramatically.
"The last time you surprised me I ended up in the creek."
"Well- uh-" Wilbur coughed awkwardly, "We aren't going outside this time?" He tried, Aster laughing at his attempt.
He pulled her into the ballroom and she smiled. "Here? Want another dance?" She asked, letting go of his hand to descend the stairs ahead of him and spin around absently, staring up at the ceiling. After no response from Wilbur, she stopped spinning and took a minute to catch her balance by staring determinedly at the wall. "Wilbur?" She asked as she turned around only to find him knelt on one knee facing her with a small ring with a blue gem in the center, wrapped with a thin silver band.
"Will you marry me, Aster?"
Aster didn't say anything at first, just started nodding with faint tears in her eyes before she moved forwards, falling down to Wilbur's level and hugging him tightly. "Yes, yes I will you idiot."
As soon as both had gone their separate ways from the ballroom, Aster with a ring on her finger, they both immediately went to find their main confidants. Aster found Kailani, Puffy, Niki, Sam, and Paris in the training arena and the whole group immediately bombarded Aster with questions, none of which she answered because Kailani spotted the ring and started screaming.
Wilbur found his parents who congratulated him and then his mother immediately started going off about color schemes and decorations and cakes and wedding stuff as she raced from the room to find Kailani and Niki.
The day came in the fall. It was mid-October and the trees were in a beautiful array of reds, oranges, and greens, and yellows. Practically the whole town was there and Aster was fucking terrified, to say the least. She was waiting behind the screens with Kailani and Puffy. Fundy was there as well, bouncing around with a basket of flower petals. The little boy didn't fully understand what was happening but he was excited nonetheless.
"Kai what if I can't do this?" Aster fretted as Kailani was busying herself with fiddling with small things on Aster's dress and hair. Puffy was smiling at the two while simultaneously trying to keep Fundy from spilling any flower petals.
"You're going to do wonderfully Aster," Kailani assured her as she took her hands in her own and smiled at the nervous bride.
"But I have to be a princess, and I don't know how to do any of that and-"
"Aster, calm. You have me, Puffy, Paris, Niki, Sam, Wilbur, everyone. We all care about you, some more than others," She jerked her head towards where Wilbur would be right now, making Aster smile, "And we are all here to support you, no matter what."
"Agreed." Puffy nodded, finally catching Fundy and holding him sill by his shoulders.
Paris poked his head behind the screens. "We're ready for our lovely ladies and little prince." He declared with a smile. Puffy rolled her eyes at him.
"Get your gay ass back to Sam and we'll be there in a minute." Paris pouted mockingly.
"So rude." He turned to Aster, "Slay queen!" Then he ducked away and they heard his footsteps crunch across the leaves as he walked back to where he was meant to be standing.
Aster took a deep breath before nodding and turning to face the exit. "Ready."
Wilbur fidgeted nervously with his hands and the hems of his sleeves as he waited anxiously. "Calm down your highness," Sam said with a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Everything will go smoothly."
Wilbur nodded, "Thanks, Sam." Paris returned from going to let them know they were ready to start.
"Here we go~" He sang quietly as he took his spot next to Sam as gentle music started up and Fundy walked out with a huge grin on his face and a basket of blue and white flower petals which he threw to the sides in uneven amounts.
Aster walked out next with her arms looped with Puffy's and Kailani's. She wore a beautiful smoky blue dress that fluttered behind her with the gentle breeze that was blowing through the fields. Her long ebony hair was left down with a few small braids in it, flowers pushed into the braids. A simple tiara rested on her head, it was filled with blue and gold butterflies as well as small diamond flowers and little pearls and other assorted gems. She looked beautiful. She was beautiful. Wilbur was very frozen.
Puffy pulled Fundy to his seat as they reached the top and Aster stood in front of Wilbur and grinned timidly at him, clearly nervous to be in front of so many people. He took her hands and squeezed them, reassuring her with a smile. The officiant rambled on and both said their vows, they had kept them short but meaningful to each other.
"I now pronounce you, husband and wife... You may kiss the bride."
Wilbur couldn't have been happier, he had just gotten married to his childhood crush and he felt like he was on cloud nine.
