"There must be another way Arosio," I say. I've been trying to tell him to do something else. Not this. Yes, I knew he wouldn't leave her alone now especially after everything that happened. But, when I think about it, it's the worst-case scenario. Her friend has already arrived at the hotel and is safe. Arosio, of course, informed Rose that she is not. I don't want her to despise him for the rest of her life, and if he does what he is about to, how will she ever fall in love with him? He is blinded by the image he saw yesterday of her state. This, however, is not the way to keep her safe.
"What way is there Dorian? I won't take her again. But I need her to be with me for her safety. As you said, the men who were supposed to look after her were nowhere to be found. Where's the guarantee that it won't happen again huh? Where? Her safety means everything to me." He says checking the papers. He is right. The men who were supposed to look after her were not anywhere. The location of their phone was the same building as the last time, and the location still says they are there, but no matter how hard I searched, they weren't found.
"What if she never loves you after this?" I try for the last time. We can find a different way, just not this one. It may take some time, but there will be an alternative way. We just need to think clearly.
He looks at me coldly.
"Don't you understand Dorian? I can't lose her. There's no other way. She will be mine and talking about her loving me, I lost hope a long time ago. It doesn't matter to me if she cares for me because I do. I care for her. Her being with me is enough for me. Truly, it's everything" He says in a low voice such that only I can hear.
That's it. I quit. I can't change his mind.
I know he does. He truly cares for her. He has shown more emotion since meeting her than he had ever in his entire life. I now understand Alberto's words. Yes, Arosio has changed like never before. I have no problem with it since I changed after meeting Meryl. Arosio never expressed it, but I know he loves her. And now nothing in this world would stop him from making her his wife unless it's her.
Did I hear what I thought I heard? Marry? He wants me to marry him?
"Wh-what?" I stutter, questioning myself if everything is real.
"Yes, marry me and then I'll save your friend." He says. No way, not even in the slightest way, did his voice suggests he was kidding. Does he think marriage is a joke?
"But I don't want to marry." I enunciate. I prayed that the words he would speak would be different but my prayer went unanswered like always.
"That's the only way, Roselyn. Marry me." He says. Why is he repeating the words 'marry me' again and again as if he is asking me out for dinner? Doesn't these words have any value to him?
"If I don't, will you not save her?" I ask, removing my hand from his clasp. How can I get married? I have never thought about it before. Let alone marrying someone I don't love. Perhaps once. Once I had thought about how my future love would purpose to me back when I was in my early teens, and that too was because of the video in which dad purposed mom with so much love and passion. But aside from that I never did. Marriage is no joke. It ties you with the other person for the rest of your life.
