Early next morning, before Donna and Angie woke up Laika went down to the village to visit the Duke and aquire the necessary groceries for the day ahead.

As she was walking, Laika couldn't help but let her mind wander off to her sleeping Lady and the fact that after three months she finally got to see her face. Of course, the maiden expected that Donna was hiding something but she wasn't expecting–.. that.

No matter, Laika still found Donna absolutely stunning and secretly hoped that she would wear her veil a bit less at least around the house when they are alone.

Last night, Laika also mentioned the word love.

What in Mother Miranda's name is real love?

She thought her parents loved her, but was proven wrong when they dumped her in this village over a decade ago.

Laika also thought A–.. her last girlfriend loved her at least enough to stay, but she was once again proven wrong when the woman left her apparently because of work about a year ago.

The only true form of love the maiden ever felt was real from the very beginning, was the one Mother Miranda selflessly gave her.

True, maybe Mary could've given her love if Laika was to give their relationship a chance but-... They don't live under the same roof anymore, and it would be hard.

"Help!!"

Laika was pulled away from her thoughts by a sudden cry of what sounded like a child. As if it were her own, Laika rushed in the direction of where the call for help came from.

Of course, with her revolver locked and loaded in hand.

"Lillian!"

"M-Mom help!"

The maiden had only a second to notice the little girl's mother helplessly standing at the wooden gate of their home, frozen with fear. Fear was not uncalled for, since her daughter was about to be teared apart by a rather huge lycan that was slowly circling her.

The girl must've fell when running back home after collecting berries from a nearby forest, which would explain the basket laying on the ground and all kinds of berries spilled around the dirt.

"Fuckin' dog."

Laika muttered as she aimed her revolver at the lycan's head and blasted it to bits the very next moment.

It's body fell to the ground.

"O-Oh dear God.."

The child's mom said as she ran to her daughter and scooped her up in her arms, shielding her eyes from the ruined corpse.

"Get back inside the house. Lycans lurk around early in the morning and late at night. Stay inside, please."

Laika warned the young mother in a serious tone, before turning on her heel and heading towards her original destination.

The Duke.

A feminine voice suddenly rang from the distance.

"T-Thank you! May Mother Miranda bless you for saving my child!"

Laika softly smiled at that.

"Ah! My favorite Russian friend is here! Come, take a look at the new 8x scope I got for your sniper rifle."

The Duke happily said as he motioned for Laika to come closer, which she did with a small scoff.

"Stop reminding me I need a new scope when you know I don't have the money for it."
