Backstory time! A new character appears! And some sad revelations about a former friend of the heroes...
Miitopia belongs to Nintendo, enjoy!
There was a time when Old Miitopia was beautiful, just like Miitopia as we know it today. The lush green fields were alive with many flowers, the ocean around the island was sparkling clear, and the first civilizations were beginning. The people used resources from all over the world to flourish and build homes. The homes soon turned into villages, and the villages to towns, and the towns became cities. All was at peace.
But even so... the creator and protector of that world, the guardian spirit, was not completely at ease. He was not visible to anyone in his world. He had no friends, no companions. No one to talk to. No one else like him to view his world.
And so he created a companion.
This companion was not like any of the people in his world. She resembled a common Mii, yes, but was like him. She, too, could create and manipulate things to her liking, just as he had done to form the world. He considered her a daughter, and loved her as such.
He had no name, and so did not desire for her to share that... and so called her "Eternal".
"We should be getting close," Eclipse told the heroes as they ventured through the remains of Karkaton. "When we find the New Elite, we can leave and move on to our next task."
As they walked, they noticed very strange dragon-like objects a little ways off the path. They looked frozen. They all seemed huddled together, their wings wrapped around one another in their final moments. One of them in particular was very... curious.
"...Dominic?" Apollo whispered.
The entire group halted, and Apollo crept toward the paralyzed dragons. Their friend did not respond. It seemed that, even after The Eternal was consuming everything, the dragon protected his family to the last.
And Janice, though not willingly, had caused it.
"We'll get them back," Akira assured the frightened Cleric. "We'll get them all back."
"Hey," Jean-Luc interrupted, "what's that over there?"
They looked where he was pointing, and a group of Goblins and Slimes came to their attention. The creatures seemed to be harassing something... no, someone. It was unclear who.
"I think someone's being attacked!" Cadence observed.
"Hey, you! Beat it!" Scarlette jumped into the fray, utilizing her Punishing Pitchfork ability to take out four of the beasts. The rest decided not to mess with her and fled in terror. "Yeah, you better run! Yes!"
"So, who's that?" Ricky asked, referring to who was being attacked. The person in question stood up and acknowledged their saviors.
"You seem to know your way with monsters," they said. "Thanks for helping me out."
"Not a problem. But, er," Akira said, "who are you? And why are you out here alone?"
The person, a girl with black hair and attire reminiscent of a ninja, tilted her head. "What, you think I can't handle myself? I was just fine. I merely ran into... complications."
"Right. What 'complications' specifically?" Jean-Luc asked suspiciously.
"I-I dropped my naginata, and those creatures are not exactly long-distance types, so my shurikin were useless." The girl picked up her weapons and returned them to her belt around her waist. "So, what were you people doing out here?"
"We're on an important mission to defeat The Eternal," Harmoni explained. "Perhaps you've heard of her?"
"Ah, The Eternal. Glad I wasn't around for that mess. Everything is all broken because of her..." The girl scowled as she looked at the paralyzed dragons. "Anyway, what makes you think someone like her can be taken out by someone like you?"
"We're searching for the last three members of the New Elite. Have you seen anyone like that?"
"No, not that I know of. But maybe I can help you look? I owe you."
"Thank you. We appreciate the help, miss...?"
"Lillian. My name is Lillian."
"It's nice to meet you, Lillian. Now then, let's keep going!"
After an hour and a half of looking in Karkaton, they found no trace of a New Elite. But what they did find was a resident of the Traveler's Hub, who had been running for a while to find someone and tell them... something. "It's terrible! Awful!" he moaned, half-crazed and not responding to any of them. "Trouble! Trouble at Manor Macabre!"
"Macabre?" Lazarus tilted his head. "That's vhere the Tribe of Darkness used to meet. Scarlette and I spent some time there before the tribe vas destroyed... perhaps ve should investigate."
"Good idea. Nothing's coming of our search here, anyway." Akira took another glance at Janice's scroll. "But it's weird. Janice specifically said that there was a New Elite here. Maybe she was just mistaken?"
"It's possible. But we'll take this one step at a time," Harmoni said. "Let's go investigate Manor Macabre."
Upon their arrival, they could easily tell that the mansion had seen better days. Cobwebs lined the corners of the walls. The stairs creaked and groaned. The floor clicked and clacked when they walked upon it. And the windows were cracked so that whenever the wind blowed, the room grew chilled and a hissing noise made them all the more anxious.
"I still remember meetings here," Scarlette whispered in the dark halls. "Lazarus and I would play pranks on the other members, and we'd always get yelled at after. We made some good memories here."
"True," Lazarus agreed. "But vhen the Dark Lord's influence began to spread, my sister went off to stop him, promising to return after. I grew vorried, and searched for her, only to find the Dark Lord had already been dealt vith."
They stopped in a large chamber, which was lined with dark windows—the kind that had the tinted glass so it was hard to see out of them. In the center was a strange pedestal that looked like it could hold a stick of some kind. Lillian had been silent for much of the trip, but the pedestal caught her attention.
"What could that be?" she wondered aloud. Seeing the hole inside it, she glanced briefly at her naginata, but before she could voice that thought...
POOF!
A vampire-like monster appeared before them, casting a shadow over the entire room. "I-I don't suppose this is one of your friends?" Lillian asked nervously.
"That is not a friend," Lazarus replied. "That is our foe. Let us prevail against it, and continue our quest!"
Next chapter is the boss fight! And what's going on in the head of new character Lillian?
Peace out!
