Athenas POV

Earth. Something I've thought about everyday for basically my whole life. The rain. The sun. The breeze. The clouds. The flowers. The animals. All the things we didn't have in space.

Earth is like the dream for most people on the ark. Little did we know what was actually waiting for us on the ground.

—————

My eyes fluttered open, a slight ringing in my ears. My eyes tried to adjust as the blurriness in my vision faded.

My brain finally caught up to me; I remembered what my father told me before I blacked out. Oh shit. We are going to die. I've been preparing for my death for as long as I was in the skybox but now that it's actually here I realize all the things I never did.

Earth has been a radiation soaked planet for the last 97 years, and we still need three more to go before it's 'safe.'

I've had time to accept that I was going to die for the past year, but I'll have to feel immense pain and watch Octavia die before my eyes. Octavia.

"Your awake!" A soft but exited voice exclaimed. Immediately, a smile made its way onto my face.

"Are you okay? Did they hurt you?" I quickly asked, concerned for my best friends safety.

"Yeah-" Octavia was cut off by the drop ship shaking then a hologram of Chancellor Jaha. He's not my favorite person because he is the reason all of us 'criminals' were locked up.

"Prisoners of the ark, hear me now. You've been given a second chance, and as your chancellor, it is my hope that you see this as not just a chance for you, but as a chance for all of us"

That's when it hit me. We are his Guinea pigs. He doesn't give a damn about our lives. He just wants to know if earth is survivable and it probably isn't because it's only been 97 years. But I guess it's worth the risk for him. After all we are criminals and that's all we'll ever be.

"We have no idea what is waiting for you down there. If the odds of survival were better, we would have sent others. Frankly, we're sending you because of your crimes have made you expendable" This bitch.

"Your dad's a dick wells" a young man shouted. I couldn't help but agree. Wait- back up. Wells? Why would Jaha send his own son to the ground when it's a low chance of life?

"Those crimes will be forgiven. Your records wiped clean" hologram Jaha continues. Well at least if we make it we won't be considered criminals. But his word means nothing if he doesn't prove it.

"The drop site has been chosen carefully. Mount weather was a military base built within a mountain. It was stocked with enough supplies to sustain 300 people for up to two years." Glad he at least put some thought into that.
