"I still don't understand for gods sake."
'I fell down into a hole, when he was no bigger then a cat he was trying to protect me already from Black.'
"But why?"
'I didn't tame Soren Randi, he learnt to trust me and I him, his mother didn't want him so I am all he has, I had no one but Thora and dad so he was all I had.'
She sighed and harshly knocking my staff out of my hands, having been using it to scratch the words into the wet sand as here the charcoal was of no use.
I let it fall behind me as she sheathed her sword too, hands on her hips.
"And you never ever thought of sharing that you found the nest to anyone?"
"Never."
She sighed again.
"It was you that freed the wyverns from the academy, it was you that raised one and above all you are trusted by them.... Why half-eyes? Why you?"
"I don't know." And it was true, I might act like I do but I don't truly know the reason, I can just speculate. "My mother."
"Yeah you did say she was the one believing in peace, seems she rubbed off down on you more then you think."
I sighed and looked over the horizon from the nearest neighboring island to the furthest, the waves crashing on the small beach at the base of out village, the cold water washing over my naked feet and washing the text away from the sand.
(A reminder of how this island looks like.)
I looked up at the cliff face, seeing the roofs of some houses peek out from the edge.
"There you are, I've been looking for you two since this morning." I looked over at Thora walking as well as she could, the sand sinking in under her fake leg and making it seem like she was limping.
"What's up peg-leg?"
"Well Randi, Renva is not supposed to strain her leg still and you just vanished with her, can I know what the hell you've both been thinking of sneaking away for?"
The heavy silence as I looked at her with lips pulled thin was telling, her hands falling off her hips as she blinked at me.
"She knows?"
"There was an accident I needed to show her."
"Wait you knew too?!" Randi exclaimed, accusingly pointing at her. "Like I thought you suspected something not full on knew." Didn't I tell her this before? Bah I don't care nor remember really.
"I told you I hadn't killed her, we got in a fight as she had brought Soren home and then freed the other wyverns, I.... Spoke out of turns and caused her to take him and run off."
"But why did you cover for her? You should have told us, told the chief."
"I know but I just couldn't, the love in their eyes, I knew she'd do anything, even challenge his law and order to keep Soren safe."
"Fighting for a pet."
"He is more then a pet to her and that I accept, I might have tried killing him once but seeing her so dedicated to him tells me I have no chance."
I looked at me sister in awe, not knowing she thought of the situation like tha--ouch.
I rubbed the top of my head where she had punched me.
I hissed at her with an angry whistle and she just dared the smirk at me.
"I owe you this from the night you ran away, never do that again.... Anyhow how is Soren?"
"Good and big."
"Good."
I quickly went to pick up my to write in the sand again.
'He is big enough so that I can think about finding a way of making him fly, even drew concepts but I need help creating it and choosing what is the best option, are you in it.'
"Well I'll help, that's what I can do as a way of asking forgiveness for what I said to you that night." Thora said.
I nodded and worriedly looked at Randi, she was thinking it was visible on her face.
"Lets see where this rabbit hole goes." She said.
I smiled a bit, this is better then what I awaited.
--------------------------------
And from that day onward the secret kept by one would forever be one kept by three, tying them all into the destiny set out ahead of them.
Thora working on covering up their traces as they worked on Renva's many projects, from leather working to smiting, to produce whatever pieces she thought up to help the flightless wyvern out. Always there to watch each test and failure.
Randi on understanding what drove them to secrecy, trying to think of this as they did, Renva was constantly being tailed by her, watching intently how she interacted with the red wyvern still locked up, the black one so huge or the green flightless one, trying to see things her way despite how she had always been taught.
Renva spending day and night trying to work out a way to give Soren back flight, scrapping plans upon plans and failing many more times but she was not giving up, she would give him flight.
"What if I were to fly with him?" She thought to herself a day, until then trying to find a way to help him fly alone, with no help, but all failed because he was alone.
She scrapped all off her ideas, sketching like her life depended on it a simple saddle and looking at it, her mind turning in all the ways that she could do this if she was the one to guide him.
She realized that night he'd never fly alone.... Because they'd fly together.
