Atsumu awoke to what sounded to be faint mumbling. Great. The blonde let out a tired groan a he glanced over to his nightstand, the clock on said table reading 2:14am. Who the fuck was up that early?
At first, Atsumu went straight to assuming someone had broken in — yet after it occurred to him his brother was still over, that thought quickly left.
Not that it made him feel any better, if Osamu's was up at this hour, it couldn't have been anything good.
Now with a uneasy feeling of worry, Atsumu silently got up and made his way to his common room. The blonde rubbed his eyes as a yawn escaped, taking a moment to collect himself as he looked ahead.
The small desk lamp in the common room was on, giving enough light to see Osamu and a few surroundings. Speaking of Osamu — said brunette was currently sat right-up on the phone, looking.. worried? Atsumu would even dare say afraid.
This left the blonde to stare, which was noticed quick as Osamu's gaze had soon looked over to meet his twins'.
Atsumu gave a look that, thankfully, spoke for him. That kind of look you give someone as a silent way of asking 'is everything alright'. Yet it still didn't earn an answer from Osamu, nothing verbal anyways — instead, the brunette had silently gestured for him to come over.
Slightly confused but not at all hesitant, Atsumu made his way over. Eventually taking a seat on on his futon, right in front of his twin.
"I'll make a call when I get back, an' we can take it from there." Osamu reassured, his tone unusually soft.
All Atsumu could do was sit and listen, as he'd gotten the memo not to speak, yet also got the hint he was still very well needed.
After some muffled speaking on the line, Osamu had once again replied.
"I know Rin, but for now try t' keep calm an' we'll sort everythin' out."
After hearing that, Atsumu gave Osamu a whole new look. Knowing Suna was on the line would explain the soft tone, but given what had been going on recently — didn't mean good at all.
"Well, if it gets t' that point, I'll handle it, I promise. M'kay?" The brunette answered to another muffled comment, yet every answer was just more confusing than the last.
Every word spoken left Atsumu questioning two times more than he previously had been, his feeling of unease had grown immensely.
"Alright, now try an' get some rest. If anythin' else happens, ya call me right away. Got it?" Osamu's gave one last question, and like usual, another muffled response came with it.
"I love ya too, Rin." Was the last thing Osamu said before hanging up, sighing shakily as he placed his phone down.
It really wasn't often anyone, Atsumu included, seen Osamu this rattled — and yet here he was. Said brunette looked sick with worry, not a single part of him seemed at ease.
"That was Suna," The blonde stated, his tone however coming out more of a question as he earned a slow nod from his brother. "Is he okay? What happened?"
"His dad came lookin' for him, for fuck sakes that asshole showed up at our place."
Shit.
Suna's dad, as Osamu and Atsumu had found out at a young age, was, to put it simply — a horrible man. From alarmingly unhealthy anger issues to terrible addictions, he was just horrible.
A few years before Suna had gone into high school, his father had left the picture and seemingly for good. But it seemed luck didn't stick, as after he'd graduated, was the first time in six years he'd been contact by his father.
For obvious reasons, Suna had ignored this and moved on with his life. Yet it seemed his father hadn't and decided to take it as far as looking for him in person.
"The fuck is he doin' tryin' t' get around t' ya's?" Atsumu piped up, now speaking over what had just been an unbearable silence.
"I don't know, that's the problem. He's been tryin' t' contact Rin for a bit now but this — this is the first time he's ever showed in person." Osamu's speaking had picked up pace a bit, it was slowly becoming more and more obvious to Atsumu that he wasn't just worried — he was panicked. And reasonably so.
"'Samu, c'mere." Atsumu gladly welcomed Osamu for a hug, something the brunette had accepted a lot quicker than usual.
From there on out, it was mumbled worries, light tears, and whispered reassurances that made the time pass. Life really had a thing for throwing curve balls, and of course it happens from time to time — but that didn't mean it was every enjoyed.
Neither twin enjoyed seeing one another in such panicked states, but it happened. All that was left was to remind one another that things'd be okay, no matter what — they've got each other's backs.
Now, after what felt like forever, Osamu had pulled away from his brother. His breath now steady as he took everything in, all to keep himself grounded.
"Ya leave later t'day t' get back, 'm sure Suna'll be okay till ya do." Atsumu reassured. "He said he'd call ya if he wasn't, right?"
To this, Osamu simply nodded, deciding to hold off on speaking until he calmed a bit more.
"So try an' stay calm, an considerin' the time, maybe try an' get some sleep. 'Kay?"
Once again, the brunette only spared a nod.
"Take my bed for the night, yer bound t' sleep better if ya do — an' that's not an offer, 'm sayin' ya have t'." The blonde kindly demanded, Osamu did have to be up early and being exhausted would've made his wake even worse.
"Sure, sure." Osamu mumbled, finally finding it in himself to speak as he hesitantly got up.
"Thank ya 'Tsumu, seriously." Another rare thing between the twins, were the thank you's. They didn't come often, but when they did, they were always meant from the heart.
"Anytime 'Samu," Atsumu smiled softly. "Now get t' bed, yer up early t'day."
For the last time that night, Osamu gave a simple nod in response before he finally walked off, heading for Atsumu's room.
That left said blonde to his lonesome, sitting in his common room with the ever so sickening feeling that this wasn't looking too good.
And, with the feeling that this seemed like it was going to get worse. A lot worse.
