I had just finished tying a dark green ribbon around my bun when my mum shouted up the stairs.

"Hurry up! We have to get to the airport! Do you want to see your brother or not?"

Smiling to myself I yelled down, "I'm coming mum!" before turning to the mirror to survey my completed look.

I wore a white tank top with black, high-waisted skinny jeans and my favorite ankle, lace up boots. I'd seen the shoes a month before when I'd gone shopping with Darcie and I'd had to get them because they were on sale and they were the suede style I'd been looking for everywhere. I felt a twinge of bitterness thinking of Darcie but I pushed it down, determined not to let anything ruin this trip. I pulled a soft scarf around my neck that was the same beige as my boots and shrugged on a light cardigan.

I surveyed my completed look, happy with my appearance for once. The ribbon was the exact color of my eyes and set off my light brown hair beautifully and the outfit was just right. Not too much or too little. I'd been stressing over what to wear all morning but I think I'd gotten just right.

I really wanted to look good when I saw my brother again. He moved to England 4 years ago, and I hadn't seen him since. I mean sure, we Skype called and everything, but it wasn't the same as having him around. I'd missed him like hell and I was pretty excited to finally go check out his apartment in London.

Smiling to myself I ran down the stairs two at a time to stop my mum from screaming herself hoarse and grabbed my already packed suitcase waiting in the hall.

My dad was outside, already loading two large suitcases into the boot of our new car. We weren't a family who traveled light.

"Get in the car honey! We're already running late! It'll be a miracle if we can actually catch our flight!" my dad yelled at me.

I climbed into the backseat of the car, and quickly put on my seatbelt. My parents climbed into their seats after me, and my dad started the engine and drove out of the driveway. I stared out of the window as we moved through the smaller streets, anxious to get to the airport. We turned onto the highway and wove through the cars trying to get there as fast as we could.

Suddenly fear flooded me. A huge removals truck was driving in our lane, straight towards us. We only realized what was happening just before it happened. We were going to crash, and there was nothing we could do.

"I love you," I whispered to my parents, and then the world exploded around me. I heard a scream, saw the window shatter. A horn blasted loudly in my ear and the light of the trucks headlights filled the car. A searing pain went through my ribs. I could feel myself slipping away, and then I was gone.
