I couldn't figure out why people were staring. I'd made sure to put a lot of effort into my appearance this morning. I'd tried to replicate the girl in the pictures as much as I could. I had carefully picked out an outfit that looked like something old me would wear, basically I wasn't wearing much. And my face... let's just say it took a while... and a shitload of makeup.
I don't really understand why old me wore so much makeup. It didn't really serve much purpose except to make me look like I was wearing makeup. My skin was naturally clear and I had long thick lashes which didn't need mascara. I guess I was just trying to fit in back then. And I wanted to fit in now. I wanted to go back to my old life, even if my old life wasn't the same anymore.
But people were still staring. And then it hit me. I was the kid who'd lost my memory, of course people would be staring at me. I proceeded to shrink into myself until I realised that the stares were only coming from girls.
And they were all directed at my brother.
I snorted loudly and rolled my eyes. I guess high school never changed.

The lady who had been assigned to helping me with my needs, 'Ms. Pearce', only looked at me once during the entire interview. She was too busy not so subtly thrusting her cleavage in Alex's face to give two shits about me. This time Alex wasn't as oblivious and, starting to get fed up with her, he suggested Darcie should come take me off her hands. At that point she threw a disgusted glance in my direction and agreed wholeheartedly. She tried to delay it as much as she could, but Alex announced his departure soon after that.
He tugged me gently by the elbow outside of Ms. Pearce's office, leaving her sulking inside. Framing my face in his hands he looked me straight in the eyes. "I know this is hard for you to go back to your old life as if nothing has happened, but I know you can do this K. I'll always be here for you no matter what." Then he pulled me into a warm hug and kissed the top of my head. I conceded and wrapped my arms around him after a few seconds. I'm not really sure why I hesitated at first. I guess I was just getting used to him treating me so affectionately. To be honest Alex doesn't really look like the approachable type...
He hugged me for a while longer and then said goodbye and walked out of the school, pretending he couldn't see the dozens of teenage girls shamelessly checking him out.
Ms. Pearce called Darcie to the office over the PA system and I only had to wait thirty seconds until the door to the waiting area was flung open, a tiny blur of colour rushed in the room with a shriek, and I was engulfed in a bone crushing hug. I was only let go once my wincing reached an audible volume.
The girl stepped back and proceeded to apologize profusely. I stared at her in shock. This was the girl from the pictures. This was Darcie.
Her personality matched her appearance exactly. Darcie looked like the kind of person who was like a whirlwind, leaving people completely speechless and blown away in her wake. Her large personality seemed to make up for her tiny body and she was wearing a pair of tiny black high waisted shorts with a bright yellow bustier.
Her face, like mine, was heavily made up, though I doubt she needed it and her hair was a poker straight, faded pink. I assumed her hair dye was temporary, as some parts of her hair was more blonde than pink. She was also wearing a pair of ridiculously high, bright pink platform heels.
