"Blake Carter. Oakland High's resident bad boy. He's bad news Katy. I would stay away from him if I were you." Darcie pinned me with a serious look over our table in the cafeteria as she shoveled down her cheeseburger. For someone so tiny she sure ate a lot. It seems Jack must have told her about my encounter with Blake this morning.
"He got all pissed that I kissed Jack. Why is kissing my boyfriend such a problem?" I sighed and took a bite of my pizza, moaning in delight as I basked in pepperoni heaven.
"Attractive" Darcie smirked, as pizza oil dripped down my chin. Shoving a napkin at me, she continued.
"The dick's always had it out for Jack, and by extension, you. It started when Jack hooked up with Carter's 'girlfriend' back in junior high. After that they started to compete on the amount of girls they could both get with. Of course, after asking you out Jack had to settle down a bit, so now they mainly trade insults as much as they can and generally act like 12 year olds."
Darcie snorted. "It's pathetic really. Bunch of macho bullshit. Half the school doesn't even remember why it started. But don't worry he's just cut because he couldn't get a girl like you in a million years and all three of you know it."
"But that's the thing" I replied, confusion taking over. "He kept acting like there was something between us before. Like I'd betrayed him somehow by kissing Jack."
Darcie's eyes darkened. "He's always been like that. Anytime he knows Jack is within sight he'll come harass you. He's just trying to create problems between you and Jack. He's an immature prick K just don't pay attention to him. He's only trying to get back at Jack for what he did in junior high."
"That's not what it seemed like Darcie. It didn't seem like he was putting on a show for Jack. Jack only came towards the end. I don't think Blake even knew he was there."
Sighing I put my head in my hands. "I don't know who to trust anymore Darcie. This is so confusing."
Darcie gripped my arm, making me look up. "Trust me K."
Her shoulders slumped and she sighed, running her hands through her hair.
"Look I didn't want to tell you this because you've always felt guilty about it and I thought it'd be easier now if you just didn't know... but you and Blake hooked up a couple months ago. It was just a drunken mistake and you and Jack had an argument earlier that day so you were really pissed at him. But Blake took advantage of you while you were drunk and angry. Jack forgave you for it after a while but you never truly forgave yourself. And Blake, being the absolute dick that he is, has held it over both of your heads ever since then. He keeps pretending he has some sort of a claim on you just to freak both you and Jack out."
"What the hell, how can you be that much of an asshole?!" I fumed. I was amazed that it was even possible to be that immature. Poor Jack had to put up with this sick guy crowing about having slept with his girlfriend. I could see why I never forgave myself. Even now we were both having to face the consequences of my stupid decision.
"Look don't worry about it. It's in the past and both you and Jack have moved on. We just have to put up with Blake being a dick because his dad is a major sponsor to the school board. Anytime Jack gets into a fight with him, he gets Saturday detentions for a month and Blake always manages to walk away Scott free" Darcie said, looking disgusted.
My expression mirrored hers. "Wow... I wouldn't be surprised if there was a picture of his face in the dictionary next to the word Fucktard."
Darcie smirked. "Fucktard isn't in the dictionary loser."
"But if it was then his picture would be right next to it."
"You're an idiot."
I felt a hand being placed around my waist as Jack slipped into a seat next to me, stealing a piece of Darcie's Hawaiian. "Who's a fucktard?"
