I groaned as I sat helplessly in a pile of clothes the size of Mount Everest at the foot of my bed. You'd think that in a wardrobe full of clothes I'd be able to find an outfit to wear.
Jack was taking me out on our 'first date' today. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited, but my unsuccessful search for an outfit had served to dampen the mood a little bit.
Insisting that where we were going had to be a surprise, Jack had left me in a rut when it came to clothing choices.
I mean a girl had to be prepared right? There's a big difference between an outfit for a fancy restaurant date, and an outfit for a paintballing date.
I heard a low whistle and turned to see Alex leaning in the entrance to my door, eyebrow raised and a grin plastered on his face. "What the hell happened here? World war 3?" he teased.
I rolled my eyes and smiled as I surveyed my room and the clothes strewn everywhere. He wasn't exaggerating.
After our conversation yesterday, Alex and I had started to get on a lot better, having breached the barrier of awkwardness. As long as he never brought up our parents then we were perfectly comfortable with each other. I knew it was a lot to ask but I wasn't ready to open that door just yet.
Heaving a sigh I struggled to stand up, explaining my situation as I made my way over to my bed which was mercifully clothes free.
"Jack is taking me out on a date and he's insisting it has to be a surprise so I have absolutely no idea what to wear!" I complained.
Alex gaped at me for a solid minute and I pouted at him, begging him to understand my crisis.
Suddenly Alex doubled over and burst out laughing. Gripping the door frame, he wiped the tears from his eyes as he graduated into the 'I'm-laughing-so-hard-that-no-sound-is-coming-out-and-i-look-like-I'm-having-a-seizure' stage of laughter.
I chucked a pillow at him as my cheeks turned red. "I'm glad you find so much enjoyment in my dilemma" I said sarcastically.
Alex slid down to the floor and gradually contained his laughter into silent bursts every few seconds, before deigning to take me seriously.
"Oh for god sake K, just wear jeans and a t-shirt, I doubt Jack will care" he said, a permanent grin on his face.
"But what if he takes me to a fancy restaurant or something? I can't turn up looking like a slob!" I protested.
"Well then wear a nice pair of jeans and a t-shirt" he continued, exasperated. "Wear this!"
He picked up a pair of black skinny jeans from next to him and chucked them at me before plucking out a maroon crop top from my desk chair and lobbing that at me as well.
I went into my closet and changed into the outfit, coming out to show Alex.
