waterlogged minds
spin dances of laughs,
wear masks of light.spiderwebbed eyes
see lines through cracks,
fragmented whispers.vulnerable hearts
open & cut & shatter
themselves, to be
stung & poisoned & patched.dustcloud thoughts
twist, curl, snap!
broken & disjointed.off-key melodies
too sharp; so flat; stop,
and with a smile.cardboard smiles,
stuck in place & rough,
rigid & crying & tired.waterlogged minds
& muddy dust thoughts;
spiderwebbed eyes
& nearly-there hearts;
off-key melodies
& tuned to smiles;smile, dear, through
the thick water.smile, dear, warbled
shape wavering.smile, dear, make
us happy.- a. ; 8.10.21
