- cracks / smiles

33 6 2

waterlogged minds
spin dances of laughs,
wear masks of light.

spiderwebbed eyes
see lines through cracks,
fragmented whispers.

vulnerable hearts
open & cut & shatter
themselves, to be
stung & poisoned & patched.

dustcloud thoughts
twist, curl, snap!
broken & disjointed.

off-key melodies
too sharp; so flat; stop,
and with a smile.

cardboard smiles,
stuck in place & rough,
rigid & crying & tired.

waterlogged minds
& muddy dust thoughts;
spiderwebbed eyes
& nearly-there hearts;
off-key melodies
& tuned to smiles;

smile, dear, through
the thick water.

smile, dear, warbled
shape wavering.

smile, dear, make
us happy.
