A knock on the door wakes Jimin.
"Jungkook-ah! Yugyeom is back." Seokjin sticks his head through the door.
"OK, hyung, thanks."
Jungkook places a small kiss on Jimin's cheek: "Good morning, petal. Slept better now?"
The omega nods and yawns.
"Good..." the alpha chuckles: "You're cute in the morning. I'll be back in a second, OK?"
"Hmmmm, sure." Jimin hums sleepily.
He watches Jungkook amble out the door, leaving it ajar. Jimin stretches like a cat and yawns once more. He hears Jungkook greet the man called Yugyeom - they must be standing right outside the door, because he hears every word loud and clear:
"Where is he?" Jungkook asks.
"I didn't find him. I'm sorry, master, it's all my fault."
"Master all my fault my ass - why do you only call me master when you have bad news, hm?" Jungkook sounds annoyed: "How is it your fault?"
"I came too late. He left Gimhae before I arrived..."
Jimin sits up to listen to the two men talk when he hears the name of his hometown.
"...he went to the border, so I went back to the border as well. But again, I was too late. He was seen there one and a half days before I arrived. They didn't let him pass, because he didn't have passage papers or a seal. No trace of him since then."
"Fuck. That's not good." Jungkook mutters under his breath.
He sounds distraught, so Jimin wonders who they are talking about.
"I'm sorry, Jungkook."
"It's OK, Yugyeom. I know you did your best. But shit, we have to find this guy!"
"I know how important this is to you, believe me. Honestly, I think we shouldn't be surprised if he turns up at your doorstep in a couple of days."
"Crossing the border and the city wall? No, no. That won't do. I'll go and see my father to get an instruction for all posts at the border and city gates to give him free passage. Take 4 or 5 Hwarang to distribute the instruction and tell them to search some more. Leave no stone unturned."
Jungkook's tone is light and friendly, but determined. It's a new side of the alpha that Jimin didn't see before: the alpha oozes natural authority and shows quick thinking.
Jungkook ads: "Ah, before I forget: I need you to accompany Jimin to the dungeon to see Kim Taeyoung while I see father. Wait here."
Jimin flinches when Jungkook enters the room, feeling caught eavesdropping. But the alpha seems too preoccupied with his own thoughts as he speaks rapidly:
"Jimin-ah, something came up and I have to see father this morning. I'll take you to see your sister in the meantime. Come, let's wash up quickly and leave. My father meets the council mid-morning, so I have to get there before."
"OK, baby."
The pet name he chose for Jungkook somehow anchored itself in Jimin's brain and came out unbidden. But it stops Jungkook immediately from pacing up and down as he breaks out in a grin, pulls Jimin close and kisses him wet and deep.
"I like how that sounds." he speaks against Jimin's lips.
A little dazed from the kiss, Jimin follows Jungkook towards the bath, wiping a little bit of moisture from his lips. He freezes in his tracks when he faces the man waiting outside the door. It's an extremely tall, lanky and pale alpha, wearing warrior robes and a sword. He bows deep in front of Jimin.
