On Earth, there were 4 main elements.

Air, Water, Earth, Fire.

Every human being had their own element.

Fire and Fire reproduced Fire.

Water and Water reproduced Water.

Earth and Earth reproduced Earth.

Air and Air reproduced Air.

Life was simple. Everyone had a soulmate that would appear to them some day. When both met for the first time, a circle in accordance to their element would surround them at their feet. They would fall in love. Everyone's soulmate had matching elements.

The elders taught the younglings how to harness the energy of their core, how to control it, how to truly feel it, how to use it. This went on for a thousand years, no change in their lives, no change in the system, just as it was meant to be.

Then one day, there was a person who wanted to be abnormal.

His name was Aelius. A youth, high achieving in his learning.  He didn't want any powers. He was determined to be different, to be special. He was set on getting rid of his powers.

He was an Earthen. It was easy enough for him to conduct experiments and take samples of plants to investigate on. It was what the natural flow of how he was meant to work. He was deep in his element.

He was the first ever biologist.

As much as he repulsed his abilities, there was no other way for him to achieve what he had wanted. He was determined to find the solution to his investigation, anxious for real results. He grew obsessive over it- some days he wouldn't sleep. And as time passed, he grew impatient, and eventually, he started losing his mind. Days on end he wouldn't stop, nightfall didn't stop him, as it stopped most people from their daily activities. Days stretched on to months, months stretched on to years.

After 12 long years, he created a final hypothesis and conducted his last experiment that would soon create the answer to what he craved.

The experiment was a success.

The day had finally come. He conducted the experiment once more. He mixed some different grass species to make the long awaited medicine. He had anticipated this moment for years. He ate the medicine. As in accordance to his research, sure enough, he lost his abilities.

His soulmate appeared to him one day in his life and the child they reproduced was not normal, unlike his mother.

The boy did not have any abilities like all others had.

When the child grew up he reproduced with his soulmate. The child they made also had no ability, like her father.

It was apparent that their offspring would never have abilities again.

Centuries had past and the amount of this species of human lifeforms gradually became greater than the ones with abilities.

After more years, the humans with abilities grew extremely rare, and it was to the extent that they were almost extinct.

The people without abilities made their own community and civilizations and soon enough, the 'people of elements' were forgotten, turned into a myth.

These people without abilities excelled in many other things and grew curiosity in the world and its surroundings. They grew smarter than the people with abilities and with the knowledge of science and physics, they soon became more powerful than the ones with abilities.

As the colony of people with abilities were now called the 'Gifted', they were also forgotten.

More and more Gifted were jealous of the other human's knowledge, and went to them disguised, learning many things. Their minds were no longer focused on bending their elements, but instead, learning knowledge of the world.

For the sake of the Gifted surviving, the wisest Gifted wrote hundreds and thousands of scrolls about the elements, how to bend them, each one written carefully and detailed.

Tips and tricks had been written, and at last, the wise man took all different blood DNA samples from each element and put it in a delicate bag. He buried gems and stones that would grant a miracle on the person who finds them and wholeheartedly believes it's true.

A miracle that shall grant them their original elements - and to whoever they convince to believe. He stored the bag and the scrolls away deep underground and wrote a sign on a board:

When you choose to believe, great power shall come to you.
