JULY 4th

Today is July 4th I'm really excited ! Things have been a little awkward since the night at Bennys but who could blame it . I'm just really looking forward to the night game . I got dressed in a red tank top with my blue baggy overalls and my white converse . I put my hair in Dutch braid ponytails and placed my Yankees cap on top . It was currently 6pm I just got back from work with Benny . The night game starts at 7 so I made my way downstairs .

"Hey Elle make sure to eat something before you head to the sandlot okay?" My dad and I are good now . He just wants to be happy and I respect that . Amelia is alright too , she is a really good cook and she always bakes my favourite cookies . I realized she's putting in effort and isn't trying to replace my mom which I dearly respect . "Uh yeah I will dad see you later ." I said lacing up my converse . I made my way to Bennys area where I say ham eating a hotdog . "Hey ham can you pass me one ?" He then handed me one and it tastes pretty good . "Oh uh hey Elle ready to go ?" Benny spoke nervously . Smalls then elbowed him which I thought was weird . "Uhmmnm sureee ? You guys alright ? You're acting funny?" Benny then ran off with ham to go get the others . I was walking with smalls . "Hey Smalls how have you been ?" "Good what about you smith?" I smiled at the way he called me by my last name . "I'm good and I hope you know that your now officially the only one who can call me that ." Scotty smiled at the words I spoke . Scottys real sweet he's like a small brother to me . Like smalls could read my mind he soon said "you know smith you're kinda like the big sister I never had ." I couldn't help but crack a huge smile . " I was just thinking about that , you're just like a brother to me ." He chuckled "hey we should get going they're waiting for us ." I nodded my head and we made our way to the sandlot. "Hey smalls let's say that you slept over at a girls house and you accidentally wrapped her in your arms while you were sleeping and the next morning she saw but she said it was fine would you act all weird after ?" He looked at me like I was nuts before he spoke "uh I suppose not if she said it was fine and didn't act weird to me I wouldn't act weird around her , this is all hypothetical?" "Well no this happened with Benny and I and now he's acting all freaked and I don't know why?" Smalls eyes went wide "hey smalls why are you acting weird- HEY SMALLS WHERE ARE YOU GOING ?????!!!" Why did he just run away ? I ran after him and I was soon at the sandlot . "Hey smalls wanna explain ?" "Uh explain what ? I don't know what you're talking about?" You've got to be kidding me right ? " hey what did I say wrong ? I told you the truth to the question you asked why are you avoiding me ?" "I'm not avoiding you smith I just wanted to get to the game ." THIS BOY IMA- "hey what's going on let's play some ball?" Okay great now Bennys here . "Nothing." I responded dryly I then ran out to home plate and picked up the bat.

BENNYS POV:
"Hey man what's her problem?" "You man it's you." Smalls replied , dang me what did I do. "What did I do ?" "Cmon Benny you've been avoiding her and from what I've heard it's for a stupid reason." What does he mean what he heard . "What?" "She told me about the other night in your room and she doenst understand why you're acting all weird and you just got to be glad she's oblivious because it's quite obvious that you like her." Holy shit he knows what am I going to do now "jeez Benny man you can calm down I won't tell anyone !" "Oh thank god , but what do I do I just don't want to like her you know baseball is my life I can't have any distractions !" "Benny listen to me she likes baseball too and she understands that it's your life she would never take that away from you . You just got to accept that you can have one thing in your life but with that there's people that share that thing with you ." Wow he's right I can have both . "Thanks smalls that really helped but one more thing , should I tell her ?" Smalls let out a grin "of course you should I think during the fireworks is a perfect time , but don't sweat it you could also do it during the carnival." "Okay thanks Scotty ! I don't know what I can do to repay you but thank you so much !" Smalls really is a great best friend "yeah no problem Benny I'd do anything for you and the guys and you know that ." With that we both ran to the diamond .

BACK TO ELLES POV:
" okay let's play some ball ." Squints begged "yeah-yeah we have been waiting!" Alan exclaimed . We all got into positions and I was ready to bat . Kenny pitched the heater and my bat made contact with the ball CRACK!! and that was a homer . I ran around all the bases watching the fireworks in the process. Then I got to home base and there was Benny waiting for me . "Hey that was a real nice hit ." I see he is talking to me normally again . "Thanks." "Elle I am really sorry for the way I have been acting . It's just that every since I saw you I've been waiting for the day to be yours . At first I didn't realize it and that night at my house I did . I didn't want to be distracted from baseball but someone told me that I can have my life with my life being shared with others . I want you to be in that life . I like you Shelly will you be mine." Will you be mine , will you be mine HOLY SHIT- "Benny I- "hey hey I get it if you don't feel the same and I jus- ...... I couldn't take his rambling anymore I took benny by his shirt and the moment our lips coiled It felt like fireworks and it's a little ironic because when I opened my eyes all I saw was the reflection of the fireworks in bennys brown eyes , the eyes I've fallen for . I felt lost in his eyes yet they made me feel so much comfort . I felt like they had me trapped yet I felt so safe . Those eyes were gonna be the death of me . Benny Rodriguez was gonna be the death of me .
