He parks the car swiftly. When I look over at him, he looks kind of nervous.

"Are you okay?" I ask him.

"Yes." He says with an insincere smile. I can't imagine why he is so anxious.

He gets out of the car and walks around to let me out. We're at a cliff side. It's beautiful. The sun is setting. The sky is pink, purple, orange. The moon rises on the other side of the sky in hazy blue. I take a deep breath, the fresh, breezy, ocean air fills my lungs. It feels almost as if it cleanses me of my earlier smoking.

The waves clash against the bottom of the cliff and create a beautiful sound.

We sit at a bench overlooking the ocean.

"This is beautiful. Thank-you Salvador." I say. He still seems quite nervous.

"While growing up...this place felt like the only peaceful place in the whole world. I used to drive here between shifts as a teenager. Or after killing someone, or after seeing something horrible. I'd just come here, sit here and everything would be okay again. And I did that all the time...up until I met you. The first time I saw you, in the nurses clothes in the basement. Like an angel from heaven, come to save me. Because of you I never came here again. Because Mona, you became my peaceful place. My home. You replaced the one thing that made me feel human, made me feel calm and happy. You became the reminder that everything is okay..."

His words penetrate my heart. And tears begin to fill my astonished eyes. I know what's coming now.

"Well...Mona. I don't think I can go the rest of my life without you. I don't think I can survive it, just as I could barely survive my years without this place..."

He stands up and gets on one knee in front of me. My hands fly to my mouth in surprise. "Oh Salvador." I whisper.

He takes a box out of his pocket and holds it up to me, opening it. It's a beautiful ring. The diamond shines under the pink sky.

"Bonita, it feels like I've been waiting my entire life to ask you this question...will you marry me?"

The tears fall from my eyes and I smile in overwhelming happiness.

"Yes!" He smiles and stands up, picking me up with him. He holds me so tightly.

He wipes the tears off of my face and kisses me intensely.
