Cynthia

Morning of November 9th, 2038 - 10:57 AM

When Cynthia awoke that morning, the other side of the bed was still slightly warm. The curtains had been drawn back so she could see the gently falling snow get swept up in the river water. Smiling to herself, she pulled the covers back and sat up, stretching her arms over her head with a yawn. She swung her legs over the side of the bed and walked to her jewelry box, opening it up and taking the dainty diamond necklace off of its hook. Gently, she set it around her neck and closed the clasp, admiring the way it sat against her skin in the mirror attached to her dresser. She left the bedroom and made her way into the kitchen, where she could see a shadow sitting at the kitchen table. Quietly, she tiptoed into the kitchen, the tile cool on her bare feet, and she waited until she heard the sound of a mug settling down on the table before she loosely wrapped her arms around her darling's neck from behind.

"Good morning, Elijah," she murmured, pressing a kiss to his cheek.

"Good morning, Cynthia. You're up late," he replied, the hand that was holding his mug now resting on one of her arms, the warmth seeping into her skin.

"I was cozy, but I missed you more," she said, letting go of him and squeezing his shoulders before going to make herself a cup of coffee. It was almost like a curse, the fact he only drank tea in the mornings. As she faced the coffee pot, she heard the scraping of chair feet against the floor, and it wasn't long until she felt his arms around her middle and his chin resting on the top of her head.

"I was thinking I might go for a swim in a bit. Care to join me?" he asked, his thumbs ghosting over the exposed skin of her abdomen.

"I mean, I'll sit on the edge and dip my feet in, but I'm not digging through my dresser to find my bathing suit in November. I packed that away well after October," she said, smiling to herself as he pressed a kiss to the top of her head.

"Even though the heat's on?"

"Even though the heat's on. But I'll wear something special for you, okay?"

"Mm, sounds like a fair deal. I suppose I'll see you in a few minutes, then," he said, slowly letting go of her so his fingers could trail along her skin. She hummed softly and took her coffee mug, filling it about halfway before adding her cream and sugar to it.

"Wait, have you already got your suit on?" she asked, turning to look at Elijah.

"Mhm. I'm surprised I didn't wake you with all the noise I made. You've become such a heavy sleeper," he said, looking at her with a small smile.

"What can I say? I evolved over the years. I had to, with all your all-nighters," she teased, and he chuckled quietly.

"You certainly make a good point. Enjoy your coffee, and I'll see you shortly," he said, then left the room. She sighed happily as she watched him leave the room, then turned to one of the windows, her coffee mug resting comfortably in her hands. As she sipped her coffee, she watched the snow fall onto the ground, smiling to herself. This was the first day off she'd had in weeks, and to spend it with her darling with no interruptions, no meetings, no business calls, it was a wonderful feeling. She finished her coffee not long after, and set the mug in the dishwasher before making her way back to the bedroom. Humming to herself, she rummaged through Elijah's side of the closet, pulling out one of the few button down shirts he owned, a crisp white one, and held it out with a small smile. Perhaps she would find her bathing suit after all.

"You little minx."

Cynthia laughed as she entered the pool room, giving a friendly wave to the two Chloe androids that were near the edge of the pool closest to the door. She'd found her favorite bathing suit, a teal bikini with daisies on the cups, and had slipped on his button down overtop it, leaving the top few buttons undone. The color of her bikini top was visible through the shirt, and she decided to forgo bottoms aside from the ones that came with the bikini.
