ik y'all are mad at me for what amber did in the last chapter but u gotta remember at the end of the day she's a kook so she's not always going to be the nicest of people, the story is more revolved around kooks than pogues yk. then again dw she won't always be a bitch. her character will develop throughout however she will always have moments & u also gotta realize she's in love w rafe and her best friend is topper so she won't always see the flaws in their actions (or hers) no matter how bad they may be
moving on, let's now begin the chapter shall we
CURRENTLY, AMBER LIVINGSTON WAS PREPARING FOR HER DATE WITH NONE OTHER THAN RAFE CAMERON HIMSELF. Rafe on the other hand, was already in her driveway, not being able to wait any longer. After all, he'd been waiting practically his whole life for this moment. Of course he had always planned on asking her in a more romantic way, but was grateful she had even agreed or knocked up the courage to ask in the first place. It was early in the morning, just a few minutes 'til seven and Rafe decided it would be a good idea to spend the morning in the mainland, wanting to get off the little island for a bit. They had gone together with the ferry tons of times and always had one hell of a time so the Cameron boy figured it would be perfect; he already knew all of her favorite places."Amber!" He walked into the house having known where the spare keys were hidden, "Upstairs!" Amber called out, slipping on a pair of red bottoms. She stood in front of her mirror, taking in her appearance before Rafe walked up behind her, "You look so fucking gorgeous." He spoke, his voice still a bit raspy. Amber loved it.
"So do you," She turned around and mentally face-palmed at what she had just said, "I mean you look good." Rafe chuckled, before pulling her in and kissing her forehead. Something he hasn't done too many times before, but Amber adored every time he did.
"Wanna head out?" She asked, Rafe now only being very slightly taller due to Amber's heels. He nodded and the the pair made their way out the house and into Rafe's truck, heading towards the docks.
"So, what do you have up your sleeve for today?" Amber asked, leaning her head against his shoulder as they now sat on the top deck of the ship.
"It's a secret for now, but don't worry you'll love it." Rafe said confidently, smiling to himself. "Someone sounds sure of themselves."
"How could I not be? C'mon A, I know practically everything about you." He said, feeling somewhat proud about the fact. He only hoped she didn't feel as if he was coming off as too much seeing as he didn't want anything more than to be with Amber. However, she didn't and in fact loved every moment she spent with the Cameron boy.
"What's my favorite color?" She asked, looking up at him. The scene felt all too familiar, "Blue. Specifically, Carolina and baby blue. The least you could do is give me a harder question, you're making this too easy, A." Amber couldn't hold back the smile at how fast he had responded, "Favorite animal?"
"Polar bears," Rafe started laughing lightly and Amber couldn't help but quirk her brow, "Sorry, but remember how hard you had cried when you found out they were going extinct. I swear you had been balling your eyes out for like a week straight, you even needed a note to excuse yourself from school." Amber scoffed, shoving his chest. "Because it's sad! Those poor animals, they're too good for us." She crossed her arms over her chest and Rafe couldn't help but look at her in amusement.
Rafe Cameron had decided start off the morning by taking Amber to her favorite breakfast spot on the mainland because according to her, the donuts were phenomenal. "We haven't been in here in what feels like forever." Amber sighed, but a smile tugged at her lips as she looked over the menu her and the dirty blonde across from her were all too familiar with.
"Are you two ready to order?" A waiter soon came up to them, staring at Amber far more than Rafe would've liked. "Yes." Rafe cleared his throat upon speaking, hoping to get the mans attention who seemed to be captivated by the Livingston girl.
Rafe proceeded to order for himself and then Amber had, who almost always ordered something different off the menu, "She'll also have a maple glazed donut." Rafe added for Amber once she had finished speaking, "Oh, will she?" The waiter chuckled, his eyes not leaving the Livingston girl. "Y'know, those are my favorite too." Rafe couldn't help but roll his eyes in response, "No one asked and I can assure you neither of us care. My girl and I have shit to do so if you could hurry along and get our food to us sooner rather than later I might actually decide to not murder you for looking at her the wrong way." Rafe's voice was calm, but venom was obviously laced in his tone. "Be a gentleman and apologize now, would you?" He raised a threatening brow and the waiter couldn't help but oblige before scurrying off.
"You're an asshole." Amber chuckled, but couldn't help the blush that had risen to her cheeks.
"Gotta protect what's mine." He smirked, but the jealousy was apparent on his face. "You are mine, Amber."
"Oh am I?" Amber rose a brow, not being able to help the butterflies that began to swarm in her stomach. Rafe nodded, "Trust me I'm never going to lose you, Amber."
"You never will." She smiled at him as their eyes met, reaching across the table to grab ahold of Rafe's hand.
"Y'know Rafe, I have to ask. Why now?" Amber looked to Rafe who was looking out at the sea as they made their way back to the Outer Banks. "What do you mean, A?"
"I've known you my entire life and we've always flirted, but I never knew how you felt. Hell, I still don't." She shook her head before continuing, "That's beside the point. Why ask me on a date now after all these years and every opportunity you missed. You're Rafe Cameron, you don't even date girls, the whole dating scene in general, seriously." Amber was nervous and recently she found the only person who could make her feel so was the boy beside her. However, her curiosity got the best of her. For as long as the pair could remember there had always been harmless flirting between the two but as of recent it didn't seem so harmless anymore. Even the people around the pair could tell, them seeing more joint at the hip as of late than ever.
"That's because none of those girls I've ever tried with were you. It's always been you Amber and I've always known I've just been too scared of rejection to ever actually try with you. Fuck, seeing you with Theo was so goddamn hard, did you know? Seeing you with any guy just makes me 'wanna smash their head in for even thinking they'd get a chance." Rafe sighed in relief, finally being able to let some emotions out to the girl who was the cause of them.
"Sounds like someone has a crush." The two chuckled a bit, "You have no idea." Rafe told her as he pulled her in to him by the hips, "Can I kiss you?"
"You don't need to ask permission." Amber smiled and with that they had kissed for the first of many times to come, "It's nice to finally kiss you sober." Amber blushed as she pulled away from the older boy, her thumb brushing across his prominent jawline. She knew that wherever she ended up, if she had Rafe by her side, she would always be safe. He knew that he would go to the ends of the earth if it meant protecting Amber and the smiles on both their faces couldn't help but brighten.
