"Cameron...?" I hear my mom and dad's voice ask in unison.

Am I finally here? Am I finally dead?

"Mommy? Dad?" I ask. I can't see anything but darkness then everything comes into focus.

"What happened to you!?" My dad asks as tears brim his eyes.

"I..." I don't want to tell them I killed myself. I've been trying since I was 13 and they still never knew. So I decide to lie, "I don't know... Where are we?" I ask.

We're in nothing but a small room painted black with hospital lights lined on the ceiling. We're just sitting in the center of the room, and there's a gate on each side.

"You're going to have to choose." My mom says. "Choose between death or life, whichever gate you open will be your fate."

"But... They both look the same." I say looking back and forth.

Both have a gate that would only be seen in a scary movie before someone enters a haunted mansion's property. And they're both pitch black on the opposite side.

"Wherever you guys go, I follow." I say, standing up.

"Come with us." My parents say as they both grab my hand and we walk to the door in the left back corner, opposite of the one in the front right corner.

As we approach a black light starts to get stronger within the gate the closer we get. Suddenly a loud nonstop beep fills my ears.

"WHAT'S GOING ON?" I yell over the noise.

"That's the sound of the machine in the hospital room indicating your heart has stopped beating!" My dad yells back.

"CAMERON NO! PLEASE WAKE UP! PLEASE!" I hear being yelled in the distance.

My mom and dad both let go of my hand.

"WHAT?" I scream. I don't know what's going on. They look so angry at me.

"WHO IS THAT!?" My mom screams at me, clearly angry.

"PLEASE!!! HELP HER! SHE CAN'T DIE! NOT NOW!!!!" I hear Anthony's voice yell in my ears.

Anthony. Fuck.

"NO ONE!" I yell.

Both my parents turn around and walk through the gate. I grab onto my mom's hand, but she lets me go.

They both mouth "sorry."

I try to go through the gate, but its like there's an invisible wall I can't get through.

"MOM!! DAD!!!!!" I scream and fall to the black floor.

I have no choice anymore. The only thing I can choose right now, is life.

The screeching in my ears reminds me that technically I'm dead right now. I scream into my hands as my tears fill my eyes and my lungs start to burn.

"CAN'T YOU DO ANYTHING?!" I hear Anthony scream.

"I'M SORRY BUT NO! NOT UNLESS SHE DECIDES TO BREATHE RIGHT NOW!" A male voice, who I'm assuming is a doctor, yells into my mind.

There's no other option I have, either live for now, or be stuck in the middle forever.

And with that thought,

I breathe.
