I was as excited as I was curious. Chris had told me to wear a casual outfit but not the beach kind. It was 5:20 and, here I was tugging my wet hair in a hair tie. And then suddenly it snaps. Oh well, it was in bad shape and, I was overusing it. So I just left my hair open. It looked nice open anyway and, I even had my scrunchie in my bag if I needed it.
I finished my coffee and then put on my shoes and then head out. I found Chris standing outside the resort, like the previous times. He was in a pair of dark blue jeans and a loose light blue button-up. Looking at his outfit, I felt satisfied with the black skinny jeans and the pink off-shoulder top I had put on.
Like the previous times, he looks at me with a warm smile. His smile was contagious and everyone would agree with me. I would miss his smile.
When I reach him I ask, "So, Mr Chris Williams, where are we going at 5:30 in the morning?"
"Actually I am Mr Christopher Williams. But my name sounds like an old man's name." He scrunches up his nose in distaste.
"Oh... so you are a Christopher. So, Columbus, where are we headed to?" He looks at me with pointed eyes.
I just shrug and say, "Sorry, that was the first thing that came to my mind." He then shakes his head in dismay but a slight smile still adorning his face.
"It's a surprise. You'll see when we get there. I've ordered a cab and it's just two minutes away...I guess" he checks his phone checking for the cab.
"Pine, we're going by car? How far are we going?" He rolls his eyes at the name but does not say anything.
"We're going to the other side of the island so we may need 45 minutes to get there. We have to reach by 6:30 so that's why we needed to get going by 5:30."
"I have no idea what you have planned but I have this feeling that's it's going to be something really good. And then you also told me to get my camera so, I am pretty excited about your surprise." I tell him with a grin on my face.
"It's going to be good. I know you'll like it." And that statement made me feel warm inside.
Just in time, the cab arrives. The first question he asks me when we get in the car is if I were afraid of heights. It was sudden and, I was curious, but nonetheless, I replied with a negative.
I was trying to figure out the possibilities of where we could be going. Camera...heights... It could be a place with a beautiful view? I don't know. One thing I knew was that I was pretty excited.
We chatted about a lot of random stuff during our entire journey. The roads were pretty empty so we actually reached there in exactly 45 minutes.
And what I saw in front of me was nowhere close to what I imagined. I was now standing in front of a small private airport of sorts. I was still a bit confused but I trusted Chris so I followed him inside. I stood behind him while he talked to somebody and showed him few documents.
Then that same man guided us towards a .... helicopter!! I could not close my mouth that had opened in surprise and awe. This was something that I would have never guessed. I kept exchanging looks between the helicopter and Chris. Chris was standing there with a grin on his face most probably feeling accomplished with the surprise. My face no doubt showed that I loved it.
I was speechless. So to make up for the lack of words, I hugged him. My sudden action surprised him but it didn't take him much time to melt into the hug. It felt right.
We parted with smiles on our faces. The man then comes our way with the safety vests and headphones. He gave us a list of instructions before we climbed into the helicopter. As soon as the helicopter started, my first reaction was... damn this is loud!!
When we rose up into the air, what I saw could only be described as breathtaking. The sun was rising and the sea sparkled goldenly. I had never seen such a magnificent scene. It was out of this world. The island was covered in greenery. The little speckled houses and all the palm trees were just so beautiful. I was literally on top of the world and I felt that way too.
I looked at Chris. His smile never left his face. And somehow his already gorgeous eyes looked even more beautiful in the sunlight. His eyes were captivating. With much difficulty, I turned my focus back to the beautiful scenery down below.
I loved every moment of the ride. Everything was perfect at that moment. It would never be the same again. But that moment was perfect. I looked at him again and this time he was looking at me too. For some reason, I could not look away. Those eyes had finally captured me. The feeling that I had been pushing away, finally became clear to me. I knew what I felt. But no words came to me.
The look in his eyes was something that I had seen in no one before. His eyes showed an emotion that stirred an emotion in me that there was hope. Hope that he felt the same way about me as I felt for him. But what good does hope do.
I looked away and trying to avoid those thoughts. We were going to go separate ways and my feelings won't matter anymore. The scenery became less appealing as these dark thoughts invaded my mind.
