Astrid thought it best to disappear while Jasmine was being removed from the campus grounds. She had taken off after Madison and Felice at a similar pace, but quickly decided a detour would be the best course of action. Instead of heading to the Headmistress's office, Astrid made her way to her dorm room, where she started to pack her belongings.
Madison found her shortly after.
The New Yorker was positively fuming. Astrid glanced momentarily in her direction as she entered the room, but swiftly resumed gathering her clothes and other personal items she planned to take with her on her little escape. Astrid didn't have to be facing Madison to know she was being glared at, to know her arms were crossed angrily over her chest, to know that she was pissed off at Astrid.
"Jasmine is being shipped back to Pine Hill," Madison said, breaking the silence. "Allegedly, there was an anonymous tip from a student that there was an unauthorized person on campus, hiding out in some of the girls' dorm rooms". Astrid forced a surprised expression, clearly hearing Madison's accusations through her tone. Astrid pointedly decided to not comment.
"Someone told on her!" Madison said louder, venturing further into the room, her arms still crossed. "She's being taken to the airport as we speak, Wilhelm couldn't stop them".
Astrid nodded, as she carefully folded up the grey, oversized men's hoodie which Jasmine had left on the bed that morning. "I'm aware," Astrid said delicately. Madison raised an eyebrow, waiting for more explanation. Rolling her eyes, Astrid produced her phone, pulled up her and Jasmine's message conversation and turned the screen for Madison to see. "She texted me just before".
Madison blew out a breath, Astrid sensing her anger. "Only a few people knew she was here. We were careful," Madison said, "You think it was August?" Astrid shrugged wordlessly. A few beats of silence passed, before Madison puffed a sigh. "Personally, I think you did it".
Astrid raised her eyebrow, turning to face Madison. "You think I did what?" She questioned innocently, pretending as if she wasn't aware of what Madison was implying.
"I think," Madison drew out her words, the accusation in her tone as obvious as ever now, "That you told the Headmistress that Jasmine was on campus".
Astrid kept her breaths even, not wanting to show any sign of surprise or guilt. Instead, she rose from her place on the floor, gilded past Madison wordlessly and headed for the door. Madison made a displeased noise, turning around to face Astrid, who was halfway out the door.
"Where are you going?" She demanded, Astrid pausing at the threshold.
"I left some clothes in Wilhelm's dorm, I need to grab them so I can finish packing," Astrid explained.
"You're not going to defend yourself? Did you tell the Headmistress on Jasmine, Astrid? Was it you?"
Astrid was silent for a few beats. "She's safer back at Pine Hill," she finally replied, "I won't apologize for the actions I took in order to protect her".
She walked out, the door slamming shut behind herself.
