Hajime breathed in and out heavily. His chest hurt, his throat burned, he couldn't stop crying. He felt boiling hot, in the middle of the desert, sand stretched for miles around him - but once he removed his blanket, he felt as cold as if encased within a block of ice. He shivered and shook as he sneezed, once, twice, three times.
"Urgh..." He knew for a fact he was ill, but it was just a cold - there was no point in seeing Mikan or getting medicine or anything, and he didn't want to waste resources, time, or risk getting his friends ill as well, when he knew he could just tough it out and handle it himself. He sighed, turning on his bed, trying to fight off the wave of heat and wave of cold he continuously felt against his skin.
He should really sleep, but he felt uncomfortable, weird, off. He didn't feel safe.
"Hinata-kun?" A small rap at his door and soft voice disrupted Hajime's thoughts, before they got any worse. It was Nagito. Hajime sighed, not really wanting to talk to anyone, but if he had to choose, he'd probably choose Nagito.
He called for Nagito to enter, and Nagito did so. "What's the matter, Komaeda?" He asked. He was concerned but he also sounded incredibly ill and tired - which he was. Hopefully eventually he'd just pass out from exhaustion. He yawned, and then realised Nagito was speaking. Whoops.
"And then I- Hinata-kun, are you listening?"
"Yes." no.
"Are you alright?"
"Mhm, just a little cold..."
"Do you need another blanket-"
"No I mean I HAVE a cold, I'm not ACTUALLY cold!" Hajime sighed in light frustration. He already wanted the silence to return, everything just... hurt.
"You have a cold? You should be resting, asleep, not awake!" Nagito immediately started fretting, tucking Hajime back in bed. He ran out the room and returned with a damp cold cloth, which he placed on Hajime's head. Hajime sighed in relief at the contact, and Nagito could feel Hajime leaning his head up slightly, so he could press his head against Nagito's hand more. Nagito blushed faintly, but diligently continued his task of helping Hajime with his illness.
"I can't sleep.... I'm tired but.... I don't feel safe..."
Nagito paused his treatment. "Well there's a quick fix to that, you know. If you want to, I can protect you while you sleep? I could hug you. O- of course you wanting trash like me to do something so friendly to you is-"
"I- I think I'd like that..." Hajime trailed off, a light blush also on his cheeks - although that could just be from his illness. "B- but I don't want you to catch my illness..."
"Oh, don't worry about that, Hinata-kun! I don't mind getting ill, and with my luck I doubt I even will." He quickly gets in next to Hajime before Hajime could protest, wrapping his arms around Hajime's waist and pulling him closer to his chest. "Do you feel better now...?"
"..." Hajime sighs, and leans into Nagito's touch, feeling his problems start to melt away as he relaxes happily. "... yeah."
He felt safe.
And with that being the last thought on his mind... he fell asleep.
