Ch.11- Artemisia Vulgaris
If there was anything that he wasn't happy about since the damned half-elf had started trying to help him with his curse... it was that she always seemed to pop by right before he was ready to head to bed.
He would have been fine with it if she was only stopping by to update him or try something new, and quick, to break the curse. But no, she would arrive right when there were no longer any traces of the sun in the sky and would keep him up for hours past his usual hours of rest and slumber.
Tonight was no different. Bakugou had really been hoping you'd not come tonight, and for a while, it seemed that way. You didn't show up at the usual time, so he decided to head to bed. If you showed up later, well... he wasn't going to get out of bed. He was done for the day, and exhausted after another week of trial and errors.
He managed to sleep for about three hours, only for there to be a sudden and constant knocking on his door. Bakugou tried to ignore it, but it seemed as if you were gung-ho on seeing him. After five minutes of your knocking, the dragonbourne was now more irritated than tired.
He threw the door open, ready to scream at you to take a damn hint, but stopped when he gazed out at your appearance. Your usual clean and tidy look... was now messy, scorched, and torn.
"The hell happened to you?" He gave you a confused expression.
"Ah... well..." You hummed, twiddling your thumbs. "I tried to look at the make-up of that hair sample I took... and it kind of blew up in my face."
"It what-?!" He shouted, grabbing your wrist and dragging you into his room.
The last thing he needed was for any of the other annoying members of this guild to overhear the conversation and start to become wise. He shut the door, turning to see you having collapsed onto a chair he had in his room.
"I really thought it would work too!" You whined. "That spell has never failed me before!!"
"So what fucking happened?" Bakugou asked, raising a brow at you.
You frowned, a disgruntled expression crossing your features. Your brows knitted together and your hands tightened into shaky fists.
"I tried to finish the spell... to see what exactly might be the base of the curse. And for a moment it looked like it was working. I was able to see your basic magical make-up... but then... when I tried to get information out of the strange dark tint around your make-up... well, the curse decided to backfire my spell."
"How the hell does it do that?!" Bakugou snarled.
You sighed, knowing he wasn't angry at you, but at whatever this difficult burden was. He sat down on his bed, his own fists and body shaking slightly. You frowned at him, realizing for the first time... that unlike what he had said to you... maybe, Bakugou had really been hoping you could fix things for him deep down.
It made your heart ache. The pain was nearly enough to bring tears to your eyes.
"It was as if the curse knew I was trying to look into it, and decided to take measures to prevent me from going further." You shook your head. "I-I've never seen a curse like this... whatever elf did this to you- they must have some kind of knack for curses. The most I can guess is that... the curse is one they created themself. So, only they would know how to lift it."
Bakugou ground his teeth. "Well that ain't going to fucking happen... the asshole who did this was only passinng by my village at the time. So who fucking knows where she is now."
