[(Y/N)'s POV]
Lina had tears in her eyes as we found ourselves in front of his headstone. It's been a few days since we lost him, and now his burial was all done.
Every time a tear would stream down my face, I'd clean it with my hand. I didn't want to cry. Not again. But apparently, my heart wasn't on the same page with me.
"So..." Lina whispered as she laid her head in my shoulder and stared at the name: Valerian Kane. "his last name wasn't even Kane... it was Quinn"
Her face was painted with guilt the moment she understood what really happened inside the warehouse– the day I explained it all to her. Jason wasn't there to talk about what happened after I left him with Val. I haven't seen him since the incident.
"Seconds before the explosion..." she sniffed. "I thought he was a traitor for kidnapping you. (Y/N)... I doubted our friendship... But it turns out he was just... carrying a burden he didn't want to worry us with" She weeped in her hands.
I kept hearing her whispering over and over again,
"I'm sorry, Val"
"I'm sorry..."
"Val... why..."
I don't know how many minutes we spent standing there, but it was enough for her to regain her composure. And from the corner of my eyes I saw an elderly man dressed in a suit walking towards us. Though as soon as I spotted where he came from— a black limo— my eyes immediately widened.
I froze in place. With every step he took, the clearer I could see and recognize his face, and the more I was afraid. Why was he here? Why was he walking towards us? Does he look disappointed? Does he know what I did?
But no. He wore that warm smile I remembered seeing a lot in the past, "Miss (Y/N),"
His voice...
It almost made me want to drop on my knees and cry, admitting that I needed help. Alfred's help.
"Listen old man, I don't know who you think you are but," Lina swung her fist towards his head.
"LINA!!" It was too late to stop her, yet he dodged her fist in time and moved her hand aside.
"It's alright. I'm not that old or weak. I can fight" he calmly remarked.
A smile played on my lips.
Not just any kind of smile.
A smile I haven't worn since 4 years ago. A smile I always seemed to have at the manor.
Lina brought her arm back to her side, narrowing her eyes– still continuously wary of him.
"Master Bruce and I would like for you to come home"
Home, huh.
I can go home now?
No more of Joker's threats?
"Hold on... Bruce?" She whispered, switching her gaze to me, "As in Bruce Wayne?"
When she realized, she lowered the upper half of her body towards Alfred, "I am so sorry, sir. If you're friends with her, then there's nothing I have to worry about. Sorry again"
She leaned her mouth near my ear, "You'll tell me all the deets later, okay?"
I shook my head, holding back my laughter as I accepted her request. After that, she walked away from the cemetery, leaving Alfred and I alone.
