11. Explanations

NARUTO POV

I woke up surrounded by comforting warmth, and an almost dream state feeling. I heard Kakashi-sensei talking to someone, and I tried to focus on what he was saying.

"How are you even alive right now? And where is Kushina-san?" Kakashi-sensei asked someone. That's when I remembered all that happened last night, and I realized I was probably still asleep in my you-san's arms. I looked up and as expected I saw my tou-san looking sincerely at Kakashi-sensei. I realized then that if I were to have blonde hair like my genjutsu appearance did, I'd look very similar to my tou-san.

He glanced down at me and noticed that I'd woken up, he smiled and ruffled my already unruly hair. I laughed and finally sat up, moving out of my tou-san's lap- I think he was a little relieved by that -and stretching.

"I'm glad you've finally woken Naruto." You-san said, smiling once again. I smiled in return and continued walking next to him this time, making no attempts at conversation since I knew Kakashi-sensei was already talking to him.

"So, how are you alive? Where is Kushina-san?" Kakashi-sensei resumed. I listened to my tou-san's answer as well, curious as to what he'd say. I was curious as to where my kaa-san was, seeing as I wanted to see her badly.

"Well," Tou-san said with something similar to hope in his eyes. "Kushina is talking with sandaime-sama right now. She's explaining where we've been and trying to get everything situated once more. We're hoping we'll be able to get the fortunes and estate back into our names now that we're here again."

Tou-san looked at me with a slight smirk and I realized that just last night the estate as well as both of the fortunes had begun the process of transferring into my name. All for naught, it seems. It shouldn't take long though, seeing as the transfer was still pending anyway and I'm only a kid.

"Once that's done we plan to move back in, and then Kushina and I have a surprise for you, Naruto." I wondered what he planned to surprise me with. I tried thinking of something, but I really couldn't figure out what it could be.

I was about to respond when I was suddenly tackled to the ground by something small and red. Whatever it was, tou-san lifted it off of me and I realized it was actually just Kaen. I sat up happily and Kaen jumped out of my tou-san's hands to once again jump on me. Tou-san's ear twitched as he looked at Kaen with confusion and wonder.

"Who's this kaa-san? A new friend? Is he cool? Do you know him?" Kaen yipped at me excitedly. He looked at tou-san with his reddish-brown eyes full of curiosity, and tou-san mirrored his expression.

"Why did he just call you kaa-san? Aren't you a little young to be a parent, Naruto?" Tou-san teased with a playful tone. I blushed out of embarrassment as Kaen continued to observe tou-san.

"Well you see, around a week ago I found him and he was hurt. He had escaped from one of those animal traps, but I'm pretty sure he lost his mom to one of them. I helped him and healed him, and since then he's stayed with me and calls me his kaa-san." I explained.

"Hmm." Tou-san said before picking Kaen up once again. He cradled him on his back, like you would a baby. He scratched lightly behind Kaen's ear. "So what is your name, little one?"

"My name is Kaen! Are you my Jiji?" Kaen yipped happily with his tail wagging. Tou-san and I laughed while Sasuke and Kakashi both chuckled. Sakura seemed very confused, so I explained what was happening to her and even she began laughing.

While we were walking I suddenly caught the scent of ten new strangers. The only thing they had in common was that they smelled like they had all come from Iwa. Then they jumped out from around us and surrounded us. I stood up and held Kaen close to my chest as I looked around with anxiety. Surprisingly, I felt scared of them. Why are they here? Are they also after me? Please, I just want to enjoy my time!
