Zola 'Slim' Monroe || November 1998
"Ayo, you gon' bring me a plate?" I smacked my lips and smirked as I carried on with my current task, which was mixing up cake batter. I promised Aunt Myra I would make fudge cupcakes for her thanksgiving get together, and I was a woman of my word.
"Yes, I'll bring you a plate. I'll even bring you some dessert,"
I could tell by the sigh he let out that he got a second meaning from my statement, which was very intentional. "Word? What type'a dessert is it?"
Laughing to myself, I bit down on my bottom lip. I took an instant liking to how his voice changed. I already knew what page he was on, and it was nothing but a continuation of our little game.
We agreed to wait on sex for as long as we could, but that didn't stop us from teasing. Whether it be on the phone, or in person— from our words, to our actions, and even the looks we'd give one another— the games didn't stop.
"What kind of dessert do you like?"
"Mmh," He contemplated his answer before he continued. "I like warm, gooey desserts. I'm sure you'd know a lot about makin' that, right?" I could hear it in his voice that he had a smirk on his face. I could also tell he was rubbing his facial hair; and the mental image I had of him did something to me.
I stopped mixing the batter and I rested my hand on the counter. Now it was my turn to sigh heavily.
"Go ahead and wring ya panties out. I can wait,"
I didn't mind how arrogant he became whenever he was able to get to me in such a way. Besides, it was pretty cute and It only made me build anticipation for what we had yet to do.
"Shut up, Silas Perkins. I don't know why you think you even got it like that," I held onto the phone while I rested my hand on my hip, awaiting a snarky response.
"Cause I do, girl. I can show you a whole lot better than I can tell you,"
"Oh, is that right?" I resumed my prior actions and I could hear him release a small chuckle from the other side of the receiver. "Yeah,"
I hummed, "We'll see," I stated as I continued to mix the batter.
"We sure will. I can't wait to see you, though. It's been too long,"
I chuckled, "Baby, it's only been a week,"
"And? What's your point? I can't miss you?"
"Of course you can! I always miss you,"
"Aight then. But, I'm finna throw some clothes on so I can run to the store for my moms. I'll see you later, sweetheart,"
"Alright, baby. I'll see you later,"
"Aight.. aye?" He spoke before I could hang up. "Yes?" I dragged out the word, smiling for no good reason as I waited for him to speak.
"Let me know when you get home and got ya overnight bag packed so I can send you a cab, aight?"
My eyebrows raised, "Oh? So, is that you telling me I'm staying with you tonight?"
"You damn skippy. I'll see you later, shorty. And don't forget my food. Later,"
With that, he ended the call and I stood there in complete shock, mouth agape as I felt a smile forming.
He had his damn nerve. He also knew I wouldn't contest, either, so it was what it was. It built my anticipation to see him even more, if I'm being honest.
