Ikebukuro, Japan

Rain poured down beating on the side of a bus window. A girl had her head laid against the window, mind racing with thoughts. The driver walked over to the girl, placing her hand on her shoulder. The woman pulled her hand away with a bit of blood trickling on her palm.

"Hey kid, end of the line. Are you okay?" The girl looked back at the driver and gave her a smile.

"Thank you, sorry I was lost in thought." She reached up, grabbing her bag from the top rack. "Thank you for the ride." She bowed to the woman stepping off the bus. From her information she was close to where she needed to go, granted her guest didn't know she was coming was a downside. She didn't even know if he'd be home. She sighed sitting on a bench next to the bus schedule. "I hope he's home." She mumbled, pushing her hood over her head and walking away. A group of men wearing yellow scarves stared at her from a distance.

"Hey girl, where are you heading with the weather like this?" One asked, laughing. Another whistled at her.

"Want us to give you a ride?" The group laughed.

"Sure." The girl said turning to them, she pushed her bag behind her.

"Come again?"

"You asked to give me a ride, I'm saying yes." The guys stopped for a second confused at the girl. They just expected her to ignore them. A glint of a blade caught the eye of one of the men, he ducked as she seemed to pull the blade from her skin. In a blink she was on one of the guys shoulder, knife to throat.

"What the hell?" He tried bumping her off but she jumped catching herself. Another blade seemed to appear out of nowhere, this time longer than the first. "What the hell are you?"

"Izaya Orihara, where is he?" Her voice came out cold, she glared at the three. One still on the ground holding his neck.

"We don't know, he's always around here somewhere." Another one said.

"Get out of here." She jerked her head signalling them to leave the area. The three took turns whispering about her as they headed off. She moved the blade to her arm, sinking it back into her. She walked up to a house porch and knocked on the door.

"Hello?" A woman with black hair answered the door. She was about to respond when another voice was heard.

"Namie, your paycheck." A male with black hair handed her a piece of paper. "Kiko, what are you doing here?"

"Oh yeah, you have a guest coming over." Name said taking the check walking out the door. Kiko walked in as Izaya shut the door behind her.

"Why are you here?" Izaya asked, watching the girl sit her bag on the couch.

"I can't be there anymore without you." The two stared at one another. "Please don't make me run away to someone else. I have no one to turn too."

"Fine, but you're going to school and getting out of my hair. I'm not a babysitter anymore." He walked over to his computer setup and started typing. "I'll have Celty take you shopping for clothes tomorrow, already submitted your school credits over. You'll start Friday, take the next two days off."

"Whose Celty?" Kiko asked changing her shirt. Izaya threw a pillow cushion at her.

"Change in the bathroom." Izaya looked away when she headed to take her skirt off. "She's friends with Shinra."

"Who?" She asked, heading to his desk, sitting on it now in pj bottoms.

"Someone from school." Izaya figured she still had memory loss so he didn't correct her. "Go to bed, I'll be up awhile. My bedroom is the third door, I'll have you a room cleaned out tomorrow evening." Kiko nodded, grabbing her bag heading to the door. It was pretty basic, just a bed and a side table. Some clothes were thrown around, the covers still made like no one had slept in there awhile.

"When's the last time you slept?" Kiko asked as Izaya walked in brushing his teeth. He shrugged. "Please sleep some tonight." She got in his bed patting next to her, he groaned sitting down with the toothbrush still in his mouth.

"Go to sleep." He looked down seeing the girl was already out, sitting up he went to the bathroom spitting in the sink. "Goodnight Kiko." He went to his computer sitting down, he had some work to be done by tomorrow morning. Izaya fixed a pot of coffee heading to stand on his back porch, Kiko woke up smelling it. She poured herself a cup walking behind him. "I thought I said to sleep."

"The smell woke me up." Kiko hummed, laying her head on his shoulder. "I can't sleep fully at night anymore. Too many memories repeating in my dreams." He sighed resting his head on hers.

"Same, coffee barely helps anymore."

"I use energy drinks on the way here. Got some still in my bag."

"That stuff's bad for you." He drank some more coffee. "This isn't any better but still. How long have you been running?"

"Two weeks, I wanted to make sure I wasn't followed." They walked back in sitting on the couch. Izaya turned the tv on as background noise, the two hated the silence. "I left on Monday but hid out at the school's old sports shed for a while. Some kids found it and I ran. Took a whole 24 hours of train to train just to get rid of my scent so if they brought dogs."

"Have they brought dogs out?" Izaya asked, laying his head back on the couch. "They did with me the last time they caught me, I found this place and they haven't found me. Shizou or someone else might slip my name, everyone hates me so I don't let anyone follow me home."

"They brought them out, I was heading to the bus station when I heard them. They almost caught me but a nice man let me hide in his taxi till the left, he drove me to another bus station. The last one I was on, I was on for 3 days." They were silent for a bit, tv grabbed their attention. Izaya had his eyes closed, almost slipping into sleep. He jumped up causing her to jump too. "Why do you say everyone hates you?"

"My job. It's my job to dig stuff up on people. Sell the information to others for my own personal game. The worlds a dirty place, but it's all I'm good at. It's the only thing dad ever taught me."

"I don't hate you."

"I hate myself enough for the both of us."

"The only thing mom taught me was how to be submissive." Izaya glanced at her. "I hate it. Everyone overlooks me. I'm tired of being run over."

"If you stay here, you're going to hear a lot about me. Not good things either, I need you to be ready for that. It's better if people don't know we're related."

"I would never be ashamed of you. I don't care if people know about me being your sister." The clock read 3:37am as they brewed another pot of coffee.

"I just wanted to warn you. I used mom's maiden name as your last for school. Want to change it?" She shook her head.

"I don't want to scare away possible friends." The two looked at one another laughing. "I don't make friends easily."

"Neither do I." The tv commercial caught their attention, both slipping into a restless nap.
