Chapter 2
The doorbell rang causing the two to look over. They put on some movie about a princess watching it all night.
"Come in." Izaya shouted heading to the kitchen. A woman walked in with a helmet on staring at the girl. Kiko looked at her back, not saying a word. Izaya knew she was conditioned to not talk first, he'd work on getting her over it. "Celty this is Kiko, Kiko Celty. She's going to take you shopping. You're in charge of her, no matter what she says she is not to be alone." The woman nodded, she started typing on her phone.
"I'm Celty, nice to meet you."
"Nice meeting you." Kiko said, shaking her hand. The two headed to her motorcycle.
"You can talk to Celty." Izaya yelled, tossing his wallet to her. "Buy groceries while you're out." She nodded, putting on the spare helmet. They arrived at the mall heading to the closest clothes store."
"How long are you planning on staying?" Celty typed on her phone.
"For a while, I start school Friday." The two walked around the store picking out some basic clothes. Kiko was picking out underclothes when a boy approached her, he wrapped his arm around her. The blade instinctively activating a switchblade in her hand, Celty stopped her from attacking.
"Hey Celty, who's this hottie?" The blade retracted going back in her skin, Celty made a note to ask her about it later. "My name's Masaomi Kida, nice to meet ya." Kiko pushed his arm off picking up a shirt she dropped.
"This is Kiko, she's visiting family." Kiko looked at her, sensing she knew the boy. She didn't feel the need to protect herself for once. She wasn't letting her guard down either way though.
"So you go to school around here?" She nodded her head, heading to the register paying for her clothes. "Who's your family bet I know them. I know everyone." Kiko still ignored him, grabbing her bag of clothes. She headed to the food market for groceries, the boy still following. "You don't talk much, but that's fine I'll talk for both of us." Kida waved a boy and girl over to them. "This is Mikado Ryuugamine and Anri Sonohara, I'm their third wheel."
"Nice meeting you." Anri said, shaking Kiko's hand.
"I'm sorry if he's been annoying you, he excites easily." Mikado said waving to Celty, the woman nodded back. "So you're new here?" Kiko nodded. It's not that she wasn't going to give them a chance, Kida was just too loud. She made her way to the register ringing up her food. After paying she made her way outside, the group of four talking among themselves. Celty grabbed the groceries, putting them onto the mist coming from her bike. Kida put an arm around her shoulder again.
"So I guess we're going to your place?" He smiled at her, sending a wink.
"No." Kiko said, pushing him off. "Do not follow me." She hopped on the back of Celty's bike. Celty waved at the kids as they headed back home.
"She digs me."
"She looked familiar." Anri said, the three heading back into the mall. Kiko held onto the back of Celty's suit as the pulled into Izaya's driveway. Two men were moving a bed into the house.
"Did you buy me a new bed?" Kiko asked, walking in with bags, Celty not far behind. "I could've taken the couch."
"Nah, Namie and I work a lot here. Mainly her but she's been stealing shit from me so lock your door." Izaya took the bags from Celty, putting them on the kitchen floor. "Here." He went to hand her some money, but she rejected it.
"No thanks, we had fun. I'll take her anytime." Celty typed on her phone. She started typing again before a glass shattering caught their attention. Izaya hopped over the couch running to the kitchen.
"Sorry." Kiko said, turning around with a broken cup in her hands. "I hit it on the counter when I was getting ice and I-" she started tearing up and Izaya sensed she was trying to not break down. He rushed over taking the cup and put it on the counter walking her to the living room. She sat with her head looking down, Celty noticed her shaking. He came back and sat on the floor in front of her, grabbing her hands.
"Hey look at me." Izaya ignored Celty looking at them, she could be handled later. "You aren't there anymore. No one is going to hurt you here." Kiko nodded her head, refusing to look up. "Thanks for today Celty, shut the door when you leave." The woman nodded, catching that he wanted her to leave. She walked to the door, shutting it behind her, sending a text to Shinra about what just happened. "Hey look, she's gone now. Everyone is gone." The men had left not long after Celty.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to break it." He grabbed her head, whipping her tears away. "I know you're not them but I can't stop it." He smiled sadly at her, getting up to sit next to her.
"It took me a while to get used to being alone. Took me even longer to realize who I can and can't trust. The only advice I can say is to just let go. Stop caring about what others may do, you're stronger than them and you know that."
"I'm a monster, I can't control it."
"Neither can I. I use it as an advantage for fighting." Izaya said, a switch blade seeming to appear from his hand. "I'm in a dangerous line of work, someone has to take care of me. Even if it's myself." The two laid down each facing opposite directions.
"You think mom ever regrets helping dad?" Kiko asked, only receiving a hum as a response. "She acts like she cares, but I'm not sure if she does. She never really was a mom, maybe she was just too scared?" She looked at Izaya, his eyes closed.
"She told me she never wanted kids." He opened his eyes looking at her. "Well she didn't want me, can't say the same for you. She might love you, she might have been scared. She didn't do anything to stop it, I hold no pity for her." A silence fell over them. "She's had more than one chance to prove she cared and she failed."
"When you left I was alone. No one talked to me, I was always in punishment. I missed you. Why didn't you come back for me?" Izaya sat up heading to the kitchen to put on coffee.
"I thought me coming back would make things worse. I tried so hard to get away and once I was I didn't want to give it up. I never forgot about you and it tore me to think of you there alone." Kiko turned the tv on, knowing it was going to be another long night. "I tired coming back once, they caught me half way. They said they'd hurt you so I left. I wouldn't be any help if I was dead." Izaya handed her a cup of coffee.
"Another long night tonight." Kiko sipped her coffee getting in a comfortable position for their movie night.
