Dream POV
____________
The ticking of the clock on the white wall sounded way louder than usual in the completely empty waiting room. There weren't any other sounds to be heard, the big and equipped waiting room looked like a scene cut out of a ghost story; there were about twenty other leather and metal black chairs set around the room, a few sofa's and coffee tables here and there for the people to get comfy if they wanted, a coffee machine and a water cooler in the corner and a receptionist's table right in the front. Right now, the receptionist's table was empty since the office hours were over. I stared at the windows that were small and on the top of the wall considering the lab was underground. I could see people walking by them, and the gray weather signaled that there could be rain coming.I sighed and looked at the clock again, it had been about 45 minutes and I was bored out of my mind waiting out here for the results of the tests I didn't want to do in the first place. I tapped my leg, trying not to think about the fact that Sapnap was home now, winding down and getting ready for tomorrow while I was sitting here, starting to develop a headache.
- "Dream?"
I jumped up, looking in the direction my name was called from. A young man in a lab coat was standing at the doorway, holding a paper. I walked towards him: "yeah that's me." I was ready to grab the papers and hit the road when he said: "the doctor is waiting for you in room 2." I dropped my hand that was halfway up, ready to grab the paper: "what? Doctor? Why?" he smiled: "nothing important there is no need to be alarmed. He just wants to have a talk with you about your test results." He turned and pointed me towards the room. I forced my legs to move while shoving down the anxiety, clenching my jaw. I had been telling myself that my test results are gonna be normal and I'll be heading home by now but this was sure as hell a bad sign. I knew I wasn't feeling too good lately, and it was a bit unnatural that I haven't had a rut in over 8 months but I told myself it was the heavy training sessions. I was just suppressing it, nothing else.
I knocked on the door twice and waited for the doctor to tell me to go in, which he did almost immediately. I opened the door and stepped in, now smiling widely like I usually did: "hey doctor, they said you wanted to see me?" the doctor was a man around forty years old, with short black hair decorated with a few silvers and light blue eyes. I took a sniff, he was definitely a beta. He noticed that: "oh yes I did, and no need to be alarmed, I'm a beta and don't mean no harm." He smirked while raising his hands jokingly in surrender. I took another step forward and closed the door, dragging my hand behind my neck embarrassed: "I'm sorry doc, old habits."
He nodded: "of course, lead alpha, military background, special ops, sure you keep your instincts close. at least most of them." He raised an eyebrow at me. When I didn't react he motioned his hand towards the seat in front of his desk and I sat down. His desk was sat directly in front of the door, under the small window that was the same as the waiting room. There was a check-up bed on the left side, the walls were the same lifeless white and the floor was an even more soulless gray. Damn, I hated these environments.
He sat back on his chair: "my name is Dr. Daniels. As you may know, I have access to your files, at least the medical parts with a small background, information about recent missions that might affect my decisions..." I ran my hand through my hair, annoyed: "ugh..." he smiled: "hey it's fine. We're just tryna help so loosen up alright?" I took a deep breath and nodded. He continued: "I got your test results and I gotta say you're as healthy as you can possibly be, there is only one scarily high number. It's the hormone the alpha's body produces, and when they are in a rut it goes higher. Yours is sky-rocketing, but frankly, you don't look like you're in a rut. You just look like a guy who had a rough day and needs a break which well I guess is true."
He sighed, looking at the papers again: "I'm gonna be honest with you Dream. I only know the number is high because I'm comparing it with your results the few other times you did this test. We don't have much information about lead alphas' biology, you guys are rare and the ones out there keep their medical information secret. It's not like there had been a lot of lead alphas letting the doctors check them out and publish the results freely. This might even be normal for you, I have no clue."
