- "How is this even possible?!"

I gritted out, keeping my voice low but my words were rushed and urgent. Tala sighed on the other side of the line: "Calm down Dream. I don't have much to go on, it's just your words. I can't really know how this happened unless I run a few tests. And even then I will most likely come up empty-handed. This is not a normal case."

I stifled an annoyed growl, pacing around the room and struggling to keep my voice low: "I'm perfectly aware that it's not a normal case Tala! Betas aren't supposed to turn into alphas overnight!" her voice remained calm: "Have you checked on Karl?" I collected myself, realizing that she was right, I had to focus on the priorities: "Yeah, George checked on him. He's a bit spooked and has a few bite marks that are slightly bleeding but nothing a few bandages can't solve. George is staying with him now." She hummed: "What about Sapnap?"

I was getting restless, but I had to try and keep my head clear: "I gave him a pill for his headache, and he literally passed out as soon as the pain faded. How can this be happening? I've never heard of anything like this! Our ranks were supposed to be unchangeable!" she stayed silent for a few seconds, but then she was mumbling: "Normally they are. I haven't heard of anything like this either, at least not in day-to-day life. I've only read about it in myths and legends."

I rolled my eyes, it was annoying considering the source but I had to hear it; so I sighed: "What do the myths say?" she huffed out a breath, knowing I wasn't one to believe in fairytales: "I've read about betas raising to the alpha rank in packs. It's told that it only happened around unique alphas of the rarest kind, and they would promote a beta if they proved to be fitting to the alpha role." I pulled on my hair, trying not to be annoyed: "Well that doesn't sound like something that has happened here! I'm not a pack leader, and Sapnap hasn't really been around Fenrir. Lead alphas might be rare now but, and correct me if I'm wrong, weren't they more common in the myths and older days?"

She hums: "True." She sounds anything but convinced: "I honestly still think something about you is different Dream." I groaned: "You've been saying that for years, Tala, and you've tried everything but haven't found anything yet. Anyway, I never promoted him or anything."

- "Dream it's not about pinning a medal to his chest and calling him a different rank. Haven't you given him command over more than a dozen alphas?" I bit down on my bottom lip, my thoughts spiraling 'that can't mean anything! It can't be the reason!' finally I Hummed in approval. She continued: "And didn't you have him prove himself worthy to lead everyone?" I sat down on the sofa, dropping my head and placing my elbow on my knee, resting my forehead against the palm of my hand: "Something like that."

- "It's not rocket science Dream. It's hormones and signals. It couldn't be any clearer. And now he has a distinctive alpha scent and sharper fangs that he's not used to, stronger urges, and most likely is going through his first rut."

I sighed but couldn't deny it. Some part of me, maybe the alpha instinct, already knew that all this was true. I just didn't understand how it was possible, and I wasn't ready to believe in fairytales to justify it. Tala's voice softened like she could tell I was under pressure: "Why are you so pissed off about this Dream? This isn't exactly bad news, now he can easily be your second in command and he'll get the alpha biological advantages. Shouldn't you be celebrating this?"

I scoffed: "Don't be ridiculous Tala. You and I both know being an alpha is nothing short of a curse, with all the strong urges and uncontrollable instincts. It's not easy to turn into an alpha when you're already an adult, he has no idea how to control these things, they're all new to him. It's gonna be so overwhelming for a while; he really needs to try hard to get everything under control."
