Only a week went by and Dream was already doubting if this was a good idea. Yeah he was excited to meet one of his best friends, but every time he thought about meeting George face to face, he got that familiar and unwelcome feeling in his stomach. It was something akin to the feeling he got whenever he'd give presentations in high school, or when he had to make those rare serious phone calls. Was he nervous? Why would he be nervous though? Dream had talked to George almost every day for years and he never got this nervous.
"Hey. You almost done staring at the wall? We gotta get going before noon to make it to the beach before it gets dark." Sapnap slammed some drinks on the counter before leaning on it, breaking Dream out of his thoughts.
Oh right. The two had planned on going to a beach a few towns over, which was gonna take at least all day. Dream had convinced Sapnap so they could do something other than stay inside and play video games all day. "Yeah yeah. I'm just about ready, I just need to grab something from my room."
"You're driving first by the way." Sapnap followed Dream as he walked back to his bedroom.
"Fine, but I'm choosing the music." Dream chuckled a bit as he walked in, grabbing his charger and speaker for when they got there.
"C'mon! You're just gonna play your music the whole way!" Sapnap groaned.
"No I won't-" Dream motioned for the two to leave, Dream grabbing his duffle bag of things he wanted to bring, which included many snacks and emergency items. "At least not the whole way."
Once the two actually left the house, throwing their items in the back, Dream got into the driver's seat and started playing some music. As a joke he started to play "Roadtrip", just to get a pained groan from sapnap. As he started driving though, he ended up just shuffling his playlist. He kept it quiet so he and Sapnap could talk and not have to yell over it, but still have something in the background while they were quiet.
A few hours into the trip, the two were stopped in a small town for gas and decided to get some lunch. The two ended up deciding on a diner in the middle of the town. Once they were sat down, Dream checked his phone to see that George had been yelling about some post he saw on Twitter, which Dream found to be funny.
"Whatcha laughing at?" Sapnap leant over the table to peer at Dream's phone, which Dream pulled away so he couldn't.
"Just George being an idiot again." Dream slipped his phone back into his pocket, Sapnap sitting back down.
"Dude. He's always an idiot. What do you mean?" Sapnap laughed at his jab and Dream knew he didn't actually mean it. George could be an idiot sometimes but other times he was an absolute genius, like when it came to strategies when they were doing those stupid challenges together. Yeah they weren't at all useful in the real world but Dream thought it was smart.
"Speaking of George, you excited for him to come to Florida? You think he'll die from the heat the moment he gets off the plane?" Sapnap chuckled a bit at the thought of it.
"Yeah, I guess. Just nervous." Dream shrugged, Sapnap shooting him a confused look while taking a sip of his drink. "I mean like.. I know he's not just some weird internet guy, he's George. But they're just something so surreal about actually being able to meet him. To like.. Be able to high five him or something."
"I guess it's weird if you look at it like that, I kinda felt the same when I went to visit Karl. But after a while of just.. Hanging out with him made it feel less weird." Sapnap just shrugged. "Just think of it like you would hop on discord with him or something. It's just the same thing except I can't kick him out by turning off the internet."
The two laughed for a moment before going quiet again.
"Thanks. I guess." Dream leant on the table. " Makes the nervousness a bit better."
"It's like two months away, at least be nervous when it's a bit closer." Sapnap chuckled.
Dream was about to speak when a waiter started asking for their order. By the time they were gone, Dream had forgotten what he was gonna say. After the duo had finished with their lunch, they decided to swap jobs, Sapnap hopping into the driver's seat while Dream provided directions. The two were in the car for another few hours when they decided to switch out while they could at the gas station they were stopped at. As Dream once again hopped into the Driver's seat, he looked over at his phone's navigation system.
"Oh neat. We only have like a half hour left." Dream let out a sigh of relief. "You probably could have handled it." He turned to Sapnap who was already halfway through a bag of chips."Well you're already at the wheel so drive." Sapnap laughed, and Dream just rolled his eyes. His attention was drawn to the sun, which was only just beginning to set. Dream started driving, and soon enough, the two found themselves in the town they had set out for. About 15 minutes of driving through busy city streets later, they finally arrived at the beach. Once parked, Sapnap jumped out of the car, stretching like it was the first time he'd been outside in years. Dream got out and grabbed his things from the back of the car.
"We could totally stay in a hotel or something tonight and come back here tomorrow too." Sapnap walked back to meet Dream by the trunk, grabbing a cooler full of drinks. Dream just nodded before closing the trunk and beginning to walk down to the beach. The two set up some things at the shore, Dream laying back to bask in the sun while it was still up. Sapnap wandered off to explore the beach, which left Dream with his thoughts.
Dream primarily thought about one thing. The thing that had been in his mind for the past week. The trip. Why the hell was Dream dreading it so much if he wanted it so bad? Dream was so excited to meet one of his best friends, but even just receiving texts from him made his heart rate spike. That was normal though. It was normal to be nervous to meet someone you've never actually seen before. Yeah. Normal. Right. Dream took a deep breath and tried to think about something else. Anything else. Anything other than George. That was the only thing on his mind. George. All those jokes were starting to prove to be true. Maybe Dream was a bit obsessed with George. But what was there not to like about him? He was amazing. George is funny, he's so smart and that wonderful voice of his was as if honey was a sound. If pretty privilege was a person, it'd be George. Not to mention that damned jawline of his. How his pale skin peeked out from under his shirt.
Something hit Dream's side with enough force to get him out of his thoughts. Dream sat up quickly looking over from where the object came from. A beach ball was now rolling away from where Dream was laying, with Sapnap laughing hysterically at Dream's reaction.
"Dude your face is so red. You couldn't have gotten sunburnt already!" Sapnap walked over, picking up the ball. "Look at what I found.""You sure that isn't just some kid's ball that you stole?" Dream rose to his feet.
Sapnap tossed it to Dream, who haphazardly caught it. "Wouldn't be the first time."
The two played a barely understandable game of volleyball until the sun fully set and they weren't able to see anymore. They decided to call it a night and booked a hotel room for the both of them. After they got settled down, Dream turned to Sapnap.
"Hey.. Can I ask you something weird?"
Sapnap looked up from his phone to face Dream. "Depends. How weird?"
"Uh.. Nevermind it's dumb." Dream looked down at the floor, nervous.
"Wait no-" Sapnap sat up, facing dream fully. "What's up?"
"What.." Dream took a deep breath, trying to think carefully about his choice of words. "Is it weird to think of your friend less like a friend and more like.. A crush?" Dream's face began to heat up. This was a mistake but the words were already out of his mouth and he couldn't take it back. "I'm asking for a friend."
Sapnap stared for a moment before shaking his head back to reality. "Well uh-" He looked away at something random, just trying to think of an actual response. "Tell your friend.. Uh.. Maybe they're not friends anymore. Maybe it's just a crush?"
Dream nodded a bit, looking back at the floor. "Right.. I'll uh.. Tell them-"
"Dream, is there something you're not telling me?" Sapnap blurted out, looking back over to dream.
"I think.." Dream shook a bit. "I think I like George-"
The two stared at each other for a moment before Sapnap just smiled that familiar shit eating grin.
"I knew it."
