"I think we should take a break."

Midorima didn't say anything, but he was shocked. He didn't think the whole fiasco the other day would escalate to this.

"W-why?" he managed to say.

You avoided eye contact. You didn't want to hurt him, but... "I just-- It'll only be temporary."

"Don't avoid the question, [First Name]!"

You flinched. "You hold me down, Shintaro. You won't even let me talk to Takao. And he already has a girlfriend."

Midorima looked down. "How do we just take a break? We're engaged."

"Shintaro, I--"

"No," he shook his head, holding in his tears that were threatening to fall, "I get it. If you don't want to marry me, then don't. Just don't go calling it a break!"

Midorima stood up from the bed, and grabbed his keys.

"Where are you going?!" Your heart raced; you panicked. You couldn't let him leave with misunderstandings.

"I don't know," he replied as he walked out of the room.

You sat there for a minute before getting up and going after him. But when you got to the front door, he drove away.
