I watched as Kaldur and Robin fought in the training room. Neither could land a hit on the other. Their movements were fluid and strikingly fast. Zatara and Captain Marvel were watching from outside the circle. The boys finished and I walked over. M'gann and Superboy, who had claimed the name Connor, walked in with the new addition to the team, and Connor's collection of strays. Wolf. The wolf. I swear he's been spending time with Batman. That is the only explanation for his addiction to collecting strays.
"You know they're a couple, right?" Robin whispered to Kaldur.
"I believe I knew before they did." Kaldur replied, smiling.
"Ah-ha! I knew it! That means you owe me a milkshake!" I smirked smugly. Robin whipped around. He blinked for a second before smacking himself in the face.
"I forgot you were here." He groaned. I wrapped my arm around his shoulders just as Wally and Artemis walked in.
"Do we tell them?" Rob asked, referring to Wally and Artemis. Kaldur shrugged.
"It is not our place." He said. I smirked and nudged Rob.
"New bet." I whispered. He raised an eyebrow. "Two milkshakes says Wally and Artemis get together." I said. He scoffed.
"They hate each other. That's way too easy." He complained. I smirked in challenge.
"Then you won't have a problem betting on it." I said nonchalantly. He grumbled but eventually agreed.
"So if Zatara is our babysitter of the week, why is he still here?" Wally asked, gesturing to the two Leaguers. One of which was munching on a familiar looking brand of candy. "And why is he eating my snacks?" Wally whined.
"Recognized. Batman, 0-2." The computerized female voice announced. As soon as the mentioned man materialized, he was all business.
"Computer, national news." He ordered. A holographic screen popped up with a familiar blonde reporter on scene.
"The initial attack was short-lived, but Metropolis was only granted a short reprieve." Cat Grant stated grimly. The camera switched to an overhead view of a ginormous plant sprouting from the ground and wrapping long tendrils around skyscrapers. The building was crushed, Superman only managing to get there in time to save two civilians. "And despite the intervention of Superman and the Justice League, there seems to be no end in sight." Multiple Leaguers battled the plants. Just as the reporter said, they seemed to be making little to no difference.
"Should we get out there?" Robin asked his mentor.
"No." The Dark Knight responded. "The League will soon have the situation under control. That's not why I'm here. According to your intel, Sportsmaster supplied Cadmus' Blockbuster formula..." He kept talking about the plants being Cobra/Blockbuster creations. They talked about the possibility of there being a secret society of super villains. I spaced out until I heard a creepy voice.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we interrupt your regularly scheduled mayhem to bring you this announcement..." I looked up and took half a step backwards. Joker had appeared on screen in all his insanity, holding a switchblade.
"This isn't going to end well." I observed. The others were too fixated on the screen to say anything back.
"... From the Injustice League." The clown finished. He chuckled as Count Vertigo started talking.
"We are responsible for the attacks on your cities. If you wish to save them, a ransom of ten billion American dollars is required. Delivery instructions have been sent to the United Nations. There is no time limit. But the longer your governments wait..." Joker pulled the camera back towards him. The white painted face filled the screen.
