In a warm and comfortable carriage, Weilan's beautiful figure sat silently in a daze.

Her fingers playing with the loose hair that draped down the side of her neck with brows furrowed together as she was lost in thought.

As much as she wanted to remain loyal and trust her benefactor, she was also growing suspicious that for 7 years, she had not been allowed to see her mother.

Thinking back to the talk she had with Li Weige before they departed for the Imperial palace, a frown deepened between her brows.

"Weilan, your birthday will be here soon, your mother wants you to not worry about her, she even sent a present. Don't worry, you'll be able to visit her soon. "

Coming back to reality, Weilan looked down and stared at the small box in her hands. The gifts that she had been receiving for her birthday seemed to have changed as though her mother had forgotten what she liked.

They had a promise that ever year her mother would make sweet honey cakes for her as her birthday present but it seemed she had forgotten.

Not to mention, since the time her mother left the capital to recuperate, she had not seen her mother.

She couldn't get rid of the heavy feelings gnawing at her heart. How could she not start to worry and suspect Li Weige?

But just as her thoughts were getting ahead of her, the carriage stopped and a voice announced that they had arrived.

Slowly getting off her carriage, Weilan silent went to stand behind the Li Family who had alighted from their own individual carriage and was already standing nearby ready to enter.

Li Chang'er smirked casually seeing Weilan quickly move to stand behind and with her head down, following behind like a maid. How could she know that Weilan was too troubled over her anxious feeling in her heart to even care about the magnificence of the palace, she kept her head down only because she was lost in thoughts.

It did not help that the Imperial Palace had a rule that all concubine born daughters had to wear a veiled hat to cover their face during the banquet. It was a custom that the previous empress dowager had set to allow noble first born ladies to have the priority of getting chosen to become a prince's consort.

There was a big issue that happened during the previous empress dowager's time that caused her to extremely hate concubine borne girls, so much so that she implemented such a petty rule. But as Empress dowager who would dare to stop her, as such, everyone could only quietly mumble behind her back.

The group made their way towards the grand hall, silently following the court lady leading the way.

Watching Weilan's back, two maids stood silently behind them. They both had a strange glimmer in their eyes, the shorter one inched closer to the other maid and softly whispered under her breath,

"Master said to follow the plan. If all goes well, go ahead. She's done well all these years, give her a painless death."

Although the two maids felt a little sad, they knew their loyalty laid with the General.

They both knew that the General was a suspicious and careful man. Even though losing someone this strong would hurt his overall strength, he would rather remove the possibility of betrayal than wait until something had happened.

Entering the banquet hall. Many eyes watched in amazement at the Li family.

The General was a handsome man and although he had aged, he still retained his dignified aura. Since he was also a Bearer, his reputation as a Great General was also well known by the populace.
