I walk into English class. Everyone is starting to settle down and sit at desks. I see my friend Jess and she motions me over to the empty desk next to her. Luckily, Beck is nowhere to be seen. We have almost every class together. English is one of them and I know he did not skip class. A) The school keeps track of us during school hours and if we leave without permission, we get into huge trouble. B) Beck wants to stay on the teacher's good side.
Beck casually walks in two minuets late. Half of the class is not here due to the weather so no one notices. No one is sitting in the seat next to me. Beck sees the open seat but I wonder if he will sit next to me or not. Hopefully not. No no no no. Beck is making his way towards the seat. He sits down right next to me as soon as the teacher begins speaking.
I click my pen as I focus on my English teacher. Today is focused on grammar. Beck slides over a folded piece of paper. I glance over at him and he motions to open it. I open the letter and read it. I do not give up that easily. Not until you have a good reason not to like me.
Knowing how determined Beck is I decide to write in the response space. Beck, maybe I would like you more if you were nice to me when we were younger. I know that you are not used to having someone not liking you, but maybe you should get used to it. I read it over and it sounds a little harsh. Sorry about this morning. I am not really a morning person.
Beck opens the my response and when he looks up, he has his arrogant smile plastered on his face. Then he scribbles something down on it. Wow. You are one to hold a grudge aren't you? Everyone starts to pack up their things and I realize that I was not paying attention during the last ten minuets of class.
"See you later, Allison." Beck calls as he leaves the room. "What was that all about?" Jess asks. "I thought you guys hated each other." "So did I." I reply thinking about the past couple days.
After two more classes, we are allowed to go home early. They admit that they misjudged the severity of the weather. They never let us go home early so I know something is up. Xander raises his eyebrows at me and I know he is just as confused as I am.
The cold air greets us as we walk out of the large school doors. "Maybe Beck will join us again. I just hope you do not walk into any trees this time," Xander teases glancing sideways at me. The best thing to do is to change the subject as soon as possible. "I wonder if mom or dad sent us any messages." "I wouldn't get my hopes up," Xander warns. "I know, I just wish we heard more from them." Xander gives me a sad smile "They are extremely busy. Just remember that they will be back soon and the 200 people will be safeback at home. We will be able to spend all day with them then." "I suppose." I know that I sound disappointed but there is no use in trying to hide it.
We walk into our house and I go and lounge on my bed. I glance at my phone and text Jess.
A: Hey. Are you home yet?
J: Yeah. There is no food in the house. So hungry.
A: Same. Be right back I am going to search for food.
J: Alright.
I grab an apple and begin walking back to my room. All of a sudden, I hear a loud knock at the door. Standing outside are two government officials along with a member of the search team my parents are a part of. Their expressions are grim. "Xander! There are people at the door." I call. Xander magically appears next to me. "Are you related to Liam and Abbey Evans?" A gruff one asks. "Yes, we are their children. Is everything okay?" I respond. The same gruff one replies, "Along with most of the search group, they went missing yesterday. I am so sorry."
