Hair up or hair down?

Down, up just highlights the bags under my eyes from lack of sleep.

"Open up Allie. You've been in there for hours some of us need to take a shower." My brother Falcon said pounding his fist on the door.

"Give me a min-"

"Allie, princess hurry up." My dad said in his 'give me a break voice.' It sounds more pained today, unlike the usual happy, peppy voice.

"Okay daddy." I kind of had to do what he said because when he talks like that it means he is having a bad day. Also known as thinking about her.

One last quick look in the mirror. Brown eyes. Blonde hair. And an attitude just like her, like my mom.

Maximum ride.

I open the door and walk past both Falcon and my dad. My brother and I share a house that used to be moms but she.. well she's gone, so we have to share a bathroom as well as almost everything else.

I walk outside and spread my wings about to take off but I see a shadow shaped like a person. It's probably Nudge spying on me again.

"NUDGE! I see you."I shouted aiming my voice at the shadow hiding but it disappeared. It probably was Nudge. I take off regardless of who it was if it was anybody to begin with, mighta just been a bird.

It feels amazing to be in the air after hours of sleep, always does. I remember years ago when I was like four, my mom was still alive and I was just learning to fly, I was too scared to try anything, so my dad came out and helped me. He told me 'I was a fast learner', that made me try a lot harder and here I am now, probably the best flyer my age, not that there are a lot of kids my age.

After a few minutes of gliding I slow down and land in the cave where I like to hide out sometimes and think about things. Why I like to come here, where my brother was killed, I don't know, there is just something kind of comforting about it. Is that weird?

I move to go to the spot in the corner where I usually sit but I trip on my way there.

A scream escapes my mouth before my eyes can figure out what they see.
