Zelda's 15th Birthday

==========

Zelda's POV

Maybe it was because of my young age or my lack of a whole family, but I could never understand love. After my mother's death and growing more distant from my father, love is rare in my life, that's if it even exists at all.

I should be excited, celebrating my birthday. Even with all of the gifts and warming smiles, it was a hard day to enjoy. Impa knew this about me, understood how hard this day became for me to celebrate. So, when no one was looking, she snatched my hand and pulled me away from the crowd.

We quickly ran through the castle's corridors, squeezing each other's hands, and shushing each other as we tried to hold back our laughs. Running with her throughout the castle was the first time I have smiled all day.

We reached the doors to my bedroom and quickly stumbled inside of them, locking the door behind us.

"No need to worry, Princess! Your knight in shinning armor is here!" Impa giggled.

"My faithful Sheikah knight, what would I do without you?" I dramatically spoke placing the back of my hand to my forehead.

"Well, you would still be bored out of your mind in that dinning hall. Doesn't your father know you hate these parties?" She placed both hands on her hips.

I frowned and began walking towards the balcony doors. "My father could care less about what I hate, he never cared at all." I pushed open the doors.

I heard her follow me out onto the balcony overlooking Hyrule. I propped my elbows onto the railing and held my hand in my palm. She mimicked my movements and watched the kingdom with me.

"I believe he does care, deep, deep down. Maybe he has a hard time showing it?" She sighed.

I let out a slow breath as I thought on her words. "I wonder if I will ever have a real family. A family that shows me what real love is and that will never leave me."

"You will, one day." She smiled to me.

I returned her smile and looked down to the courtyard below. "Do you ever think about how our future husbands are out there right now and we don't even know them yet?"

Impa let out a soft giggle. "My, my, that mind of yours surely does wonder some strange things, doesn't it? "

"Well it's true! Who do you think they are?" I giggled with her.

She was quiet for a moment as she analyzed my question. "Whoever your husband is, I know he will love you and no matter what, he will never leave your side. He will be faithful and passionate."

My eyes widened at her response. "Woah, are your reading my future or something?"

"Quick let me see the palm of your hand." She snatched my arm and pulled it towards her. "Hm, yes, yes, I see. I'm sensing... a blonde."

"A blonde? My palm did not tell you that and no way he is blonde." I laughed and yanked my hand back.

"The palm tells all, Princess." She winked to me.

I rolled my eyes and rested against the railing again. "Well no matter the hair color, I hope the first part is right. I would like to have a loving, real family."

"I hope so too, Princess."

My eyes continued studying the courtyard around the castle. Towards the right, there is a group of young knights resting from training. I watched as they rested their swords onto the ground and sat in the grass below them. My gaze fell onto one knight who was stretching his arms above his head. After stretching, his hands reached down and removed his silver helmet, revealing strands of long, blonde hair that was pulled back into a ponytail.
