Through The Trial

Chapter 5

"O-my-word" Molly said. "I can't believe he'll be back tomorrow and so close to Fridays dance. Tell me you didn't forget about the dance."
"You know you and Jones should like totally go together" Katie said.
That's when the other guys come up. "He's always talking about you." John said happy to tell me.
David added "and you two would be the cutest couple in school"
"If he doesn't ask you out just ask him for yourself." Katie said.
"I am not talking about this today could you not see yesterday I almost had a mental breakdown in school. You guys just added it on. Plus my dad gave me crap about going to medical school. Right now nothing in my life is stable. So just leave me alone please." I said and didn't talk to anyone till I got home. They just made me so mad.
When I got home Jones scream quietly but I heard it.
"Are you okay" I said he had fallen asleep and had a nightmare.
"No I am not." He said sitting up "my dad scared me so much that day. Coming home I was going to plan something special." I sat down. "He just sold everything that ever belonged to mom not only did he have to kill her he sold everything she had. Then he showed me the whip and said 'let's try it out'

Two.
Three.
Four.
Five.
Then he said leave. I walked to the first place I thought of, you." He is so upset.
"I know this is hard for you. Emotional scars run deeper than physical scars. I wish you never had to go through this." I said supportingly.
"You know, I don't because then I'd never have meet you." Then he kissed me on my cheek.
"I know." I said then hugged him.
"So your back to school tomorrow." I said changing the subject.
"Yeah" he said.
"Just to let you know everyone thinks your so brave and will be falling at your feet. Oh and I got in a small fight with the group. I am sick of them pressuring us to date I am don't know if I'm ready yet." I said.
"I know as much as I want to date you right now maybe it's just not the right time." He said I couldn't tell if he was lying or not as I said I would make a terrible lawyer.
"I know it's really hard right now." I said.
"Yeah it would be your mom's birthday today right." He said.
"Yeah she would have been 45 today." I said then he leaned over and hugged me.
"Ames it's ok. It's ok. I am here for you" he said.
"Amy I'm home come down for supper, you to Jones." Dad said.

"Hey daddy." I said "what's for supper."
"We're going to Peppers grill." Dad said. That was moms favorite restaurant. We would be celebrating her birthday.
"Thanks daddy." I said.
"I know." He says with a sly smile on his face.
When we got there I knew what I wanted spicy honey BBQ wings. My mom always got them so in her memory I have always got it. My dad got chicken pot pie. Jones just got a steak salad. That's when dad brought up my college again.
"Why didn't you tell me that you got into a medical program. " he said. "Or told me you had interest."
"Dad I did tell you and I told you multiple times you put yourself so deep in your cases that you shut me out. Dad I wanted to be a doctor since mom died. You just don't listen to me all the time. I love you but it's just you don't listen." I said kinda upset no really upset.
"Okay why did you never tell me before that I could have helped you get in to other colleges." He said.
"I only wanted Duke that's where you and mom met. Plus it's where I want to go."I said Jones reached for my hand under the table and squeezed. That was are signal. I am there for you.
"Mr. Lane I got a letter today for Duke I was wondering if you'd open it for me." Jones said. Dad looked at me and said to Jones. "Sure I will open it for you I hope you get in."
He opened it and was indifferent. "Your on the wait list son but there's a high change you would get in. I wish you luck. Amy I am so sorry I don't listen to you, but I have to go next Saturdays the trail and I will put your dad away Jones no matter what."
Dad walked away.
"He just doesn't get it I don't like it here I need a change."I said.
"I have to, have a change too and I want that change to happen now Ames. I lied about not being ready to date you I am more than ready." He said then taking my head in his hand and kissed me hard. I kissed him back.
"I'm sorry right now I don't know what to think dad makes me so mad. Him just leaving like that I just he can be so madding I got a full ride scholarship for Duke and in one month I am 18 he can't and won't control me."
"I know, I know the only person that can control you is me." He said kissing me again.
"You know what when your ready I am ready". I said
"Then Amy McKinley Lane will you be my girlfriend." He said.
"Yes Jones Gregory Johns I'd love to be your girlfriend." Then I kissed him.
When we got home dad was on the couch looking at the mom's picture he was crying.
"See you later I want to talk to my dad." I said quietly to Jones.

"Daddy you know I love you right but being a doctor and going to Duke gets me closer to mom not far from you I need time dad and your support but you have to be there I know we lost mom but I can't lose you too I love to much." I said.
"I can't lose you ether." He said then for an hour we just cried together.
