Chapter 19: Recovery Process
*3rd Person’s POV*
(Friday)
The next morning, Friday, all the Avengers felt much better. They all woke up at around the same time, and had a very relaxing morning, filled with laughter and chatter. Thanks to Steve and Bucky, the latter’s wounds almost healed with Loki’s magic, the Avengers had pancakes and scrambled eggs. They were mostly fine, but Loki had gotten a mild neck sprain, nothing Bruce couldn’t fix. After having their share of fun, all the Avengers headed over to the transparent cell that held the two magical teenagers. The Maximoff Twins, Steve like to call them, haven’t had the chance to use the bathroom, eat or had even a sip of water. Though they were criminals, the group of heroes couldn’t just let the pair sit there and starve. As everyone finished their breakfast, they headed over to the elevator and went down to see their guests.
-In the cell-
Wanda woke up, worried and frantic. She peeled the baby blue blanket off her body and sat up, leaning against the glass walls that bound her and her brother. Staring out, she noticed that there were at least 6 guards surrounding the cell, all looking extremely stern and unhappy, except for one, Agent Coulson. Noticing the brown-haired girl staring at him in curiosity, he beamed and waved at her. Wanda was taken aback and smiled at him, waving back, before turning her attention back to the things inside the cell. Pietro was still asleep, his chest heaving up and down as his bound wrists were stretched out in front of him. Smiling fondly, Wanda decided to wake her brother up. “Wake up!” she yelled playfully into her brother’s ear. The blonde-haired boy yelled and jumped up, whipping his head to see who or what caused that sound, sighing when he realised it was his sister.
“You know, though I am not your dominant, I am still one. And I’m your older brother too! I bet that when you get a dominant, your brattiness will stop,” Petro lectured and stuck out his tongue at his 12-minute-younger sister, as he said the last sentence.
“I’m not bratty!” Wanda insisted as she gave him a playful shove.
“See? You just hit me! You are bratty!” Pietro laughed.
“I am not!”
“You are!”
“Am not!”
“You are!”
“Am not!”
“Definitely you are!”
“What’s going on here?” Steve’s dominant voice caused the two to freeze in place and immediately look down. Steve and the other Avengers had entered the cell, and had been observing them from outside the cell ever since Wanda woke up. The twins didn’t know, so they thought Steve was angry at them, but actually he was just asking a rhetorical question. Even Pietro kept quiet. He too was scared of Steve. Little by little, Pietro inched closer to Wanda and leaned against the glass walls too, hugging Wanda protectively.
“Why so quiet? I thought you two were bickering just a few seconds ago,” Steve mused as he folded his arms across his chest, a smile tugging at his lips. The two still didn’t look up, huddling in the corner of the cell, trying to make themselves look as small as possible.
“Come on, you know we don’t bite. Let’s have a talk,” Thor said, smiling as he and Bruce sat cross-legged opposite the twins. Soon, all the Avengers sat down too, with Bucky in Steve’s lap on the right side of Thor, Loki in Clint’s lap on the left side of Thor and Tony and Nat beside Clint.
With wary eyes, the pair looked up and nodded meekly. “We brought some food for you, we thought you might be hungry,” Bruce offered with a smile, as he and Loki placed two plates of ham sandwiches in front of them, along with a glass of water each. Eyeing the food suspiciously, Pietro hesitantly took a bite, struggling a little as he grabbed the sandwich with cuffed hands. Wanda followed suit, taking a big bite out of hers, before gulping down her glass of water greedily. They must have been hungry.
“Now, as you two enjoy your meal, we want to know if you want to join us, the Avengers, to stop crime and defend the world. If not, you two can continue staying here and just feed us information about Hydra. Your call,” Natasha said nonchalantly as she weaved her fingers through Tony’s hair, who was leaning against the red headed assassin. At this, Wanda’s eyes widened as Pietro immediately stopped eating. The two looked at each other, almost as if they were having a silent conversation. The rest of the Avengers watched, amused, as Wanda would let out little grunts of frustration while her brother would shake his head and frown, tilting his head slightly when he was trying to talk about the Avengers. Soon, the pair stopped, gave a nod to each other and turned back to face the Avengers.
“Yes, we will go with you,” Pietro finally replied in his Sokovian accent.
“But of course, we can’t trust you. So, we will bring you to a guarded room, the two of you will share, and you will have a power-absorbing anklet on you for two weeks, before you get your powers back. You will need to earn our trust,” Loki told them.
“General rules for staying in my house are: No weapons unless we say so, don’t try to take off the anklet, don’t get violent with any of us, treat all of us and yourselves with respect, be kind to one another and tell us if you need anything, since we aren’t letting you out of the tower for two weeks. You will have a bathroom in your room, and you can’t leave the room until we get you, which will be breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can stay in the common room for as long as you want, but you can’t go anywhere else, other than your room, the kitchen, the common room, bathrooms and the elevator. Wherever you are, the both of you, you will need one Avenger each, to supervise you, especially Pietro, since you are a dominant. Obey, or get cuffed again,” Tony informed them, and Wanda nodded as she tried to remember everything.
“Jarvis, my super amazing AI, will also inform you about the rules in case you forget, and if you need anything, just yell out for him, alright?” Tony continued.
“I’m here if you need me, Ms and Mr Maximoff,” Jarvis spoke politely, his voice scaring Wanda as she looked around in shock, wondering where that robotic voice came from.
“He’s built into the building, so he can hear you anywhere. There will also be cameras in every room, especially your room, but not in the bathrooms, obviously. But even in the bathrooms he can hear you, so beware,” Clint added on. The twins nodded slowly, finishing up their food, trying to process the information they received.
“Great, now we’re going to put these anklets on you and take off your cuffs. Make any move to escape or hurt us, we will shock you with a taser and place you back in here for a month,” Bucky warned and Wanda nodded her head frantically, not wanting to get shocked. Bucky and Steve both took on one twin each. Bucky took on a mischievous blonde boy while Steve chose the scared brunette girl who was huddled up in her blanket.
Steve and Bucky both wrapped the leather anklet around both the twin’s right ankles and activated it. Tony invented it so that it would be waterproof, yet comfortable, and could still contain the wearer’s powers. He also placed a lock where it could only be opened by someone’s thumbprint. All the Avengers’ thumbprints were registered on it.
After they locked it, the two soldiers undid the cuffs, which left red, angry marks on both of the twins wrists. Wanda heaved a sigh of relief while Pietro just massaged his own wrists and also attended to Wanda and massaged her wrists too. The Avengers couldn’t help but smile as they watched the two twins interact and look out for one another.
“Okay, time to go to your room,” Tony clapped his hands together as he and the rest of the Avengers stood up, ready to leave the cell. Wanda and Pietro also stood up, the older of the two holding the younger one’s hand. With 4 Avengers walking behind the twins and 4 in front of them, the whole group of superheroes left the transparent cell, and headed over to Wanda and Pietro’s new room.
