Chapter 25: New Recruit
*3rd Person’s POV*
(Friday)
Alarm clock ringing incessantly beside him, the tired teenager stumbled to the bathroom, before realising what day it was today.
“Oh my god! It’s today!” He exclaimed, eyes wide and frantically searching for his tie that he had just gotten. He hopped around his small bedroom, one hand brushing his teeth and the other trying to find his lucky socks. Yes, he had lucky socks.
“Peter!” Aunt May scolded, leaning against the door frame of his room. “What day is it today?”
“It’s the day where I’m officially an intern at Stark Industries!” Peter yelled from across his room. “Did you see where my tie was? And my lucky black socks?”
“They’re all in the living room on the couch!” Aunt May told him, chuckling at his nephew’s behaviour. With that, she left the room and let Peter get ready.
After 15 minutes, Peter was smartly dressed, hair for once not in his usual mess and looking rather excited. “Okay, I’m ready.”
“Not yet.” Aunt May shoved a piece of toast into his mouth, before smiling. “Now you’re ready.”
“Mayyy,” he whined, pulling the bread out of his mouth before chomping down on it until he had finished it. “Oh shoot, I’m going to be late! See you later, May! I’ll be back for dinner!”
“Alright, shoo shoo! See you later, Peter.” Aunt May smiled fondly as her nephew dashed out of the house.
…
“Wow…” Peter gawked at the size of the building. Stark Industries was huge!
“Well, it's now or never.” The boy sucked in a breath, before pushing the doors of Stark Industries open, the cool air of the air conditioning hitting him. He made his way to the kind-looking receptionist positioned at the front of the first floor, giving a shy smile as he politely asked where the interns were supposed to go.
“24th floor to your right. You won’t get lost.” She grinned, her keyboard clacking away, before she handed him a pass with his face and name on it. He attached it to his suit jacket, proud of the Stark Industries logo at the top of the tag, along with the words ‘Intern’ at the bottom. He couldn’t wait to show Aunt May this.
“Thank you so much for your help!” Peter waved enthusiastically before disappearing into the lift, excitement bubbling in him. What was it like to be an intern? He would definitely have to share this with MJ and Ned later on.
Truth be told, Tony Stark was Peter’s greatest idol. He had attended a few of his Stark Expos, and took a couple of pictures of him, but never really knew him. He knew that Tony was Ironman too, and that was a reason to make him adore Tony even more. (a/n: civil war never happened, so Tony doesn’t know who Peter is, just knows there’s a spider-man helping people.) Peter always wanted to meet Tony, yet never had the chance to. Now, he can finally meet him!
Soon, the elevator dinged, the small screen above all the buttons showing ‘24th floor’ on it. “24th floor, sir. The internship room is on your right once you exit this lift. Might I be of any assistance?” A young, cheerful voice asked.
“Woah…AI!” Peter murmured to himself when he heard Friday’s voice. “Um, thank you for your help! If I do need your help, I-I’ll let you know…”
“Friday.” The voice replied, as if she had a grin in her voice.
“Yeah, I’ll let you know, Ms Friday.” Peter grinned, walking out of the lift and turned right, seeing a door that read “Internship Training Room”. Sucking in a deep breath, Peter pressed down on the door handle and opened the black door. He stepped in, only to gasp as his eyes widened.
“M-Mr S-S-Stark!” Peter stuttered, seeing the one and only Tony Stark sitting at the head of the table. It seemed like he was early, since he and Tony were the only one in the room.
Tony was sitting at the head of the table, looking through some documents on his tablet, his legs propped up on one of the chairs beneath the table. He had on his signature glasses and an expensive-looking navy blue suit with a baby pink vest. When he heard his name, he looked up, only to grin when he saw the nervous teenager.
“Ah, Mr Parker. The first one here.” Tony chuckled when he saw Peter gawk at him in awe, mouth opening and closing like a goldfish.
“H-Hi!” Peter managed to get out.
“I wanna talk to you about something, since you’re the first one here.” Tony’s face went from fun and playful to serious.
“U-Um yeah, sure.” Peter gulped. Was he getting fired already? On his first day? “P-Please don’t fire me. I-I know it’s my first day and if you want you can totally fire me, it’s just that this internship means a lot to me and I really want to work here. But it's totally fine if you fire me, cos I-” Peter rambled on and on until Tony cut him off.
“No, I am not going to fire you. I just want to talk about this.” Tony held up one of his holographic tablets and played a video. It showed someone swinging from a building, swooping down to save a cat stuck in a tree. He had on a blue and red sort of like a onesie and black glasses.
Peter paled. Oh no. Was Tony going to blackmail him into doing horrendous things by threatening to use his spider-man secret against him? His submissive behaviour got him into a pool of insecurities. He wished MJ was here with him. His dominant would know how to calm him down. “No, no, Mr Stark isn’t that kind of guy.” Peter reasoned to himself.
“Are you this person? Spider…ling? Crime-fighting spider? Spider-boy?”
“S-Spiderman.” Peter hung his head.
“Hey.” Tony tilted Peter’s head up. “I admire what you do. You have the skills and you have the brains. I’ve seen the structure of your web shooter. It’s good. And I know that you just want to help people. But not with that suit.”
Tony brought out a briefcase and opened it. Peter could not help but gasp at what he saw. A new suit, in black and red, made just for him.
“How would you like to join the Avengers?” Tony asked, grinning.
Peter nearly fainted.
"You want me…to join…the Avengers?" Peter asked, eyes as wide as saucers.
"Do you not want to?"
"No! No! O-Of course I want to!" Peter breathed in and out a few times.
Tony held out his hand.
Peter stared at the hand, before shaking it. "T-Thank you, Mr Stark. T-This means a lot to me."
"Welcome to the team, kid."
