~LIKE THE SAND~

I don't know If I should be angry or sad but what I saw on that test report was just so heartbreaking.

Elia had cancer and I couldn't do anything about it explains how she always felt weak and coughed all the time, seeing her in the state as she was rushed into the hospital broke my heart a lot.

I went to her ward and she was still unconscious I sat on the chair by the side bed and watched her as she slept.

I held her hands and it twitched as soon as my hands touched hers. She opened her eyes lazily and stared at me, she couldn't even say a word, tears flowed down her cheek and I cleaned them from her eyes.

"Why did you leave me Elia? Was I not good enough?"

She wanted to speak but I stopped her, she was weak and I didn't want to stress her that much.

I tried to say another word but I couldn't, I burst into tears and she did too. I was going to loose her again , forever this time and I couldn't do anything about it.

I exited the room, asked a nurse to look after her and made my way home. I felt sick, lost and confused .

After hours of crying, I went back to the hospital. She was a little better than she was when I left the hospital, she was speaking to a woman sitting by her bed.

She noticed my presence and gave me a small smile, I returned it. The woman greeted me and asked to speak with me in private, I agreed with and we walked out of the room.

She told about what the doctor said, she wasn't going to live another month. All we had to do is give her our love and care, nothing less than that.

I braced myself and walked into the room, giving her the biggest smile and hugging her.

"You're not mad at me?" She managed to ask.

"No." I replied.

"I'm sorry Dave, I didn't want to hurt you, I didn't mean to." She sobbed.

"Hey, it's ok. I forgive you, there's no need to be angry or sad."

"I don't want to go Dave. I want to be with you, I love you."

"And I love you too Elia and you'll always be here, right here." I said pointing at my heart.

She smiled and I gave her another hug.

"Had anything to eat yet?" I asked.

"Not hungry."

"Nonsense, I'll buy you a smoothie, strawberry. Your favorite."

"Ok."

I turned to leave but she stopped me.

"Dave." She called out.

"Yeah?"

"I love you and don't you ever forget that." She said.

"I know Elia. I'll be back."

I dashed out of the hospital and rushed to a nearby cafe and bought a strawberry smoothie. I paid for it and made my way back to the hospital.

I got to the room and there was a doctor and three nurses, they were trying to help Elia, she was groaning in pains and I rushed to her sides and held her hand.

Her eyes met mine and it became weaker and weaker till she closed her eyes. I just watched as she slipped away from my hands LIKE THE SAND.

I couldn't do anything about, they took her away and all I could do was weep for the love I once had.

Life has a way of taking our happiness away from us and now my happiness was gone.

The woman I spoke to earlier came in with a child in her arms and gave the baby to me.

"Her gift to you before she left." The woman said .

I looked at her in shock and held the baby, she had Elia's eyes and lips just like mine.

"What's her name?" I asked looking at my daughter.

"Hope."
