Chapter 18: 'Cold'

3rd Person POV:

When the last bell rang, Luz was the first to get out of her seat. She hadn't been able to focus all day, with good reason of course. She thought maybe she wouldn't think about last night at all in school, but she was wrong.

She pushed past people in the halls to find her way out of the school and hopefully make it to the softball field in time before Amity had started practice. She had no reason to of course, but she wanted to say goodbye to her girlfriend before heading out. Luz liked to say that now, 'girlfriend'.

When Luz got out the doors, she grabbed her bike as fast as possible and rode it to the fields, almost knocking into multiple things as she did this.

Finally getting there, she had seen Amity was practicing. Luz had to go to work today, but she could hang around a bit, at least until Amity had a break. For as long as they've known each other, Luz had never seen Amity play before. Luz had never been into sports, she's always been really into art. But surprisingly, she is still pretty athletic and strong, from her perspective of course.

Watching Amity practice made Luz very intrigued, even if she had no idea what was going on. She tried to understand and watch, but it just wasn't clicking. She realized she had been zoning out on the practice for a while when the coach called for a break.

Luz quickly grabbed her bike and sneaked over to Amity, she knew she would be late it work, but she didn't care. Luckily, Amity and Boscha were near the corner away from everyone else. "Hey, Amity," She whispered. It seemed to get the Blight's attention because she looked around before she could spot Luz.

Amity had put down her water and Luz could see her fix her hair a bit. "Luz, what are you doing here?" Amity asked, looking over at her coach to make sure she wasn't looking. "I just wanted to say bye and also, you have to explain this whole game to me when I'm over," Luz said with a smile. "Luz, I'm happy you're here but you should get going before both of us get in trouble...Wait, aren't you late?" Amity asked concerned.

"I mean, yeah, but I don't care," Luz said. "Well, I don't want you to get fired, so I'll see you after ok?" Amity said. Luz rolled her eyes and got on her bike. "Ok, I guess I'll go to work," she said, "Bye Ammy, I'll see you later,". "Bye Luz," Amity chuckled as she saw her girlfriend ride off.

Amity turned back to Boscha, she forgot she was even there. Boscha had an eyebrow raised, "Ammy?" She asked. "Shut up, I like it," Amity mumbled under her breath and crossed her arms. Boscha scoffed, "You're hopeless," She said as she ran back out the field. Amity rolled her eyes but ran with her to continue practicing.

Once Luz made it back home, she unlocked her door with the new key she had got. When she got inside, she could see the dirty dishes in the sink from the day before. Usually, Luz would wash them before heading out, but she didn't feel like it today. 

Luz walked to her room and had quickly changed into her uniform and had packed a bag filled with pajamas and the clothes that she'll wear at school, along with some other items such as a toothbrush. She made sure not to forget anything before leaving because she wouldn't be back tonight. After packing her things, she grabbed a piece of paper and a pen,

'Spending the night at Amity's. Be Back tomorrow. Call if anything.'

Short and simple.

She placed the note on the counter where she knew her mom would see it. After that, she left, grabbing her bike and heading off to the pier. 'It's gonna be a good night,' She thought.

Amity's practice ended early, which was nice. The days were getting colder, which means the season was about to end. And the way they were playing, the team could go on to state championships at the end of the month.
